CARMEN DE LA FUENTE

Carmen de la Fuente was born in April 1915 in the Federal District. An intense woman of great
academic and artistic merit, a trainer of multiple generations, she joined the IPN in 1945 as a
teacher of Spanish and Universal Literature in the pre-vocational and vocational schools of the
National Polytechnic Institute. Starting in 1950, he was in charge of the Press Office in the
Department of Cultural and Sports Action of the Polytechnic, directed by Dr. Pedro Centeno Pino.
Years later, when the Department of Cultural Diffusion was formed by Dr. Juan Manuel Ortiz de
Zárate, she was called to take charge of the Cultural Promotion Office. There he organized the first
Fine Arts Salon with works by illustrious authors such as Dr. Atl. He also formed 22 Cultural
Athenaeums. Due to her enthusiastic participation, her students considered her the Humanistic
Entrance of the Polytechnic. Her deep affection for the Institute led her to create her greatest work
for all polytechnics: the Anthem of the National Polytechnic Institute, which was sung for the first
time on August 19, 1961 during the XXV Anniversary of the founding of the IPN. The anthem of the
IPN was created during the administration of Eng. Eugenio Méndez Docurro, THIS WAS chosen
through a call, with the teacher's letter being the winner of the contest. She was a professor of
Mexican Literature at the IPN; founder of Vórtice. Enrique González Martínez National Poetry Prize
1970. Prize of the 1975 Literary Contest of Champotón, Campeche. National Historical Theater
Award INBA-State of Mexico 1985. He died on October 13, 2013 as he had been suffering from
Alzheimer's for several years ago.
