The Halloween Tragedy in Itaewon

The Halloween tragedy in Itaewon, Seoul, South Korea, claimed hundreds of lives and injuries.
The death toll continues to rise. According to the latest data, the death toll in the Itaewon tragedy
was 151 people. Most of the victims died were teenagers.

The cause of the Itaewon tragedy is suspected to be hundreds of people falling due to cardiac
arrest. Hundreds of people suffered from cardiac arrest after thousands of people crowded the
narrow streets of Itaewon city, South Korea, in celebration of Halloween.

Medical personnel and local residents provided emergency first aid to a number of victims who
fell due to cardiac arrest. The first aid given to the victims lying on the street was CPR
(cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

Due to the Halloween tragedy in Itaewon, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol held an
emergency meeting in the early hours of Sunday (10/30) local time. The president issued an
announcement of a national mourning period indefinitely.
