I. Annotate any FOUR out of SIX questions each not exceeding 200 words (4X5 = 20)
1. We can die by it, if not live by love,
And if unfit for tombs and hearse
Our legend be, it will be fit for verse;
2. My mirth and edge was lost, a blunted knife
Was of more use than I.
Thus thin and lean without a fence or friend,

We follow after bubbles blown in th' air.

2. Analyse critically the portrayal of Satan in Paradise Lost Book IX.
3. Discuss Webster's treatment of women and their status in society as presented in The
Duchess of Malfi.
4. Consider Dryden’s Preface to the Fables as a pioneering masterpiece in Comparative
Criticism.
