Significant Weather Features


Weather System, forecast & warnings for next 5 days:
➢ A Low Pressure Area lies over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman-Nicobar
Islands:
• It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over
Westcentral Bay of Bengal on 15th November, 2023.
• Thereafter, it would move northwestwards and may intensify into a Deep Depression
over Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on 16th November.
• Subsequently, it would recurve north-northeastwards and reach Northwest Bay of
Bengal off Odisha coast on 17th November.
➢ Another upper air cyclonic circulation lies over southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Sri
Lanka extending upto middle-tropospheric levels. A trough also runs from this cyclonic
circulation to the cyclonic circulation associated with the above Low Pressure Area in lower
tropospheric levels.
Under their influence:
(i) Rainfall Warning
• Light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is very
likely over costal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on 14th and 15th November and
isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also very likely on 14th November over the same region.
• Light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal
districts of Andhra Pradesh on 14th & 15th November
• Light to moderate rainfall at a few places is likely over coastal districts of Odisha & West Bengal
on 15th November. It would increase becoming light to moderate rainfall at many places with
isolated heavy rainfall is likely over coastal districts of Odisha & West Bengal on 16th & 17th
November and isolated very heavy rainfall also very likely over coastal districts of Odisha on
16th November,
• Light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Nagaland,
Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 16th to 18th November and over south Assam and east
Meghalaya on 17th November.
(ii) Fishermen Warning:
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the following areas;
Southeast & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea during 14th and 15th
November
Southwest Bay of Bengal during 14th and 15th November
Westcentral Bay of Bengal during 15th to 17th November
Northwest Bay of Bengal during 16th & 17th November
Along & off Andhra Pradesh Coast during 15th & 16th November
Along & off Odisha coast during 15th to 17th November
Along & off West Bengal coast during 16th to 18th November
Along & off Bangladesh coast during 16th to 18th November
The Fishermen out at sea are advised to return to coast by 14th November evening.

Main Weather Observations:

❖ Rainfall distribution (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today): at
most places over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at many places over Tamil Nadu,
Puducherry & Karaikal; at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam,
Rayalaseema and Kerala & Mahe.

❖ Heavy to very heavy rainfall (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of
today) observed at some places over coastal and delta districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry
& Karaikal.

❖ Significant rainfall recorded (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of
today) (in cm): Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal: Velankanni (dist Nagapattinam) 17,
Nagapattinam (dist Nagapattinam) 15, Karaikal (dist Karaikal) 14, Nannilam (dist
Thiruvarur), Cuddalore (dist Cuddalore), Parangipettai (dist Cuddalore), Puducherry (dist
Puducherry) 12 each, Vedaranyam (dist Nagapattinam), Tirupoondi (dist Nagapattinam)
11 each

❖ Minimum Temperature Departures (as on 14-11-2023): Minimum temperatures are


appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Saurashtra & Kutch ;
above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at a few places over Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra,
Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam; at isolated places
over Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar,
Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Nagaland, Manipur,
Mizoram & Tripura, Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal. They were
below normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Gujarat, West Uttar Pradesh and
Assam & Meghalaya and near normal over rest parts of the country. Today, the lowest
minimum temperature of 11.2°C is reported at Hissar (Haryana) over the plains of the
country.

❖ Maximum Temperature Departures (as on 13-11-2023): Maximum temperatures


were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at isolated places over Chhattisgarh,
Vidarbha and Assam & Meghalaya; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over
Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura; at a few places over East
Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal &
Sikkim; at isolated places over Telangana, Odisha, Saurashtra & Kutch. They were below
normal (-1.6°C to -3.0°C) at isolated places over Rajasthan, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi
and Gujarat Region and near normal over rest parts of the country. Yesterday, the highest
maximum temperature of 37.5°C was reported at Mumbai Santacruz (Konkan).

Meteorological Analysis (Based on 1430 hours IST)

❖ The Low Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining
Andaman-Nicobar Islands with the associated cyclonic circulation
extending upto upper tropospheric levels persists. It is likely to move
west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over Westcentral
Bay of Bengal on 15th November, 2023. Thereafter, it would move
northwestwards and may intensify into a Deep Depression over
Westcentral Bay of Bengal off Andhra Pradesh coast on 16th November.
Subsequently, it would recurve north-northeastwards and reach
Northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha coast on 17th November.

❖ The upper air cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal &
adjoining Sri Lanka extending upto middle tropospheric levels persists.

❖ The trough from the cyclonic circulation over Southwest Bay of Bengal &
adjoining Sri Lanka to the cyclonic circulation associated with the Low
Pressure Area over Southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining Andaman-
Nicobar Islands extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level persists.

Weather Forecast for next 7 days (Upto 0830 hours IST of 21st November, 2023)

❖ Meteorological sub-division wise detailed 7 days rainfall forecast is given in

❖ No significant change in minimum temperature over most parts of Northwest
India.

❖ Heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls very likely at isolated
places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal (Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam,
Karaikal, Mayiladuthurai); Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Andaman &
Nicobar Islands, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema.
❖ Thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over Andaman &
Nicobar Islands, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema, South Interior
Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe.
❖ Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph is
likely to prevail over southwest Bay of Bengal, along & off Tamil Nadu & Puducherry
and Sri Lanka coasts, Gulf of Mannar and Comorin Area; southeast Bay of Bengal and
