Name: Rotchell A. Pelayo

Date: September 6, 2023
Agency: CSWDO Tagum

Activities:

Maám Sarah Ella Marie S. Matuguina assigned us tasks relating to the post-activity report,
as well as translating and encoding all of the client's responses from the activity that they
had conducted on August 25, 2023. Then, Maám Joy Labial, RSW assigned me the task of
writing an assessment for the clients she is working with, such as victims of abuse, sexual
abuse, and children in conflict with the law. Furthermore, the agency head of the City Social
Welfare and Development Office called the Student Field Workers (SFWs) after we
completed the agency orientation, and she informed us of the tasks and responsibilities that
we will be undertaking soon. There was a total of four Agency Field Supervisors (AFS) that
were assigned by the agency head, and they also introduced themselves such as their roles,
and responsibilities in the agency. The SFWs introduced themselves, and after that the
leveling of expectations follows. I have also presented the semestral plan in order for them to
know what are the things that we wanted to achieve on a specific that specific week.

Problems/ Difficulties Encountered:

When I was tasked with assessing the cases that Maám Joy Labial, RSW asked me to do
because she was so busy, I encountered minimal difficulties such as being worried that I
wouldn't be able to do my responsibility properly, and I became nervous because the
assessment that I am doing is not just a normal activity in school, but it is already being used
in practice. We had also problems in the center, on the afternoon because the agency head
told us to conduct one of our case studies there, and we were concerned because we were
assigned to report in the PAMANA Boys Care Center and the transportation to get there at
Tagumpay Sagop Bata Center is expensive.

Learning Insights:

The second day at the agency was extremely hectic, with numerous events and tasks that
needed to be completed. Knowing and understanding the various roles of the social
worker/Agency Field Supervisor's responsibilities is one of the most remarkable things I
have learned. A single social worker is responsible for a variety of roles, including Division
Head Planning and Field Operations, marriage counselor, and Head of Boys Care Center.
Each of them has a different role, which made me realize that social workers are adaptable
and generalists because they practice their skills in multiple fields. Also, by the end of the
orientation with the Agency Head and Agency Field Supervisors (AFS), I was able to identify
the clients we will be dealing with in the case study, as well as the sector we will be dealing
with soon, which is the Solo Parents. I also understand the process that we must follow to
meet the sector of Solo Parents, and I am aware that every time we need to visit our client/s,
we must be accompanied by a social worker.
Furthermore, after our visits to the PAMANA Boys Care Center and Tagumpay Sagop Bata
Center with the help of the designated social workers, I was able to recall everything that our
Professors had told us. Whenever we had the opportunity to meet with a client, we had to
apply the ethics, values, and principles of a social worker. When we passed through each
room at the center, the social workers informed us about it and shared brief information
about the clients who were present. I learned that clients at the PAMANA Boys Care Center
include Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL) who committed theft, have court cases, and are
drug dependents. At Tagumpay Sagop Bata Center, it consists of children who are victims of
abuse, sexual abused, and abandoned.

Maám Hosna S. Domawal, RSW, also told us that the children at Tagumpay Sagop Bata
Center enjoy having people come and visit them; she added that they enjoy playing and
doing activities where they can learn and have fun at the same time. I've also noticed that
the children there are well educated, and disciplined, and have learned to complete the tasks
assigned to them by the social workers and house parents. Doing household chores is one
of their responsibilities, and by doing it daily, they developed initiatives to clean the center
both inside and out. This could be connected to experiential learning theory of John Dewey,
which means that a person learns the best by experiencing it and encouraging leaners active
participation and letting them experience things.
Overall, when we met the clients of the centers we visited, we made sure to show them that
we accepted them and never thought negatively about them after learning about a bit
information of their cases. It is related to the non-judgmental principles because the SFWs
did not judge them, respected them, and treated them equally regardless of their
circumstances.
