CHAPTER ONE- INTRODUCTION

Definitions of Research

 research is composed of- re and search.

 research is a careful, systematic, patient study and investigation in some field of knowledge,
undertaken to establish facts or principles.

 research Is a careful investigation or inquiry especially through search for new facts in any
branch of knowledge.

 Research is a structured inquiry that utilizes acceptable scientific methodology to solve


problems and creates new knowledge that is generally applicable.

 Research is a systematic investigation to find answers to a problem.

 Research is defined as a search for knowledge.

 Research is a movement from the known to the unknown.

 Research is an original contribution to the existing stock of knowledge making for its
advancement.

 Research is the pursuit of truth with the help of study, observation, comparison and experiment.

 Research is the search for knowledge through objective and systematic method of finding
solutions to a problem.

 Research comprises

 defining and redefining problems,

 formulating hypothesis;

 collecting, organizing and evaluating data;

 making deductions and reaching conclusions; and

 lastly carefully testing the conclusions to determine whether they fit the formulating
hypothesis.
