TSOP Based obstacle detection sensor module(Single TSOP)

TSOP-OBSD-Dual
General Description The TSOP-OBSDDual is a general purpose proximity sensor. Here we use it for collision detection. The module consist of two IR emitter and TSOP receiver pairs. One for obstacles on left, and the other for right. The high precision TSOP receiver detects a signal of fixed frequency. The module consists of 555 IC, working in astable multivibrator configuration. The output of TSOP is high whenever it receives a fixed frequency of 38KHz and low otherwise. The on-board LED indicator helps user to check status of the sensor without using any additional hardware. The power consumption of this module is low. It gives a digital output and false detection due ambient light is low.

Overview of Schematic

The 555 is used as a astable multivibrator. The frequency of the 555 is tuned using the potentiometer. The output of 555 is given to both the IR transmitters in parallel. TSOP detects a frequency of 38KHZ. The output of TSOP goes low when it receives this frequency. The output pins are normally high because, though the IR LEDs are continuously transmitting, due to no obstacle, nothing is reflected back to the TSOP . The indication LEDs are off. When an obstacle is encountered, either on left or right, the output of the respective TSOP goes low as the required frequency is reflected from the obstacle surface. This output is connected to the cathode of indication LED, which then turns ON. Thus obstacle on either side can be detected independently using the status of the corresponding pin.
