Scholarships from the Department of Education of Guangdong Province

Background
In order to attract an increased number of international students for study in Guangdong Province and to
improve the quality of higher education in Guangdong Province, the Department of Education of
Guangdong Province has instituted an innovative scholarship. The scholarship was launched in the academic
year 2013/14. Outstanding international students at UIC are eligible to apply. The criteria for awarding the
scholarship will be based both on the quality of the student’s academic study and his/her participation in
community activities. It should be that the scholarship will be awarded only to degree-seeking international
students, not to exchange or visiting students.

Award and Scholarship

The number of awardees will vary each year. Successful applicants shall receive a scholarship of 10,000
RMB each.

Procedures
All UIC full-time degree seeking international students are eligible candidates for the scholarship. The
International Development Office (IDO) will inform the Deans of the Divisions to nominate candidates once
the IDO receives notification from the Department of Education of Guangdong Province.
The applicant for the scholarship should have:
1. Excellent Academic Performance
2. Recommendations from the Programme Director and the Dean
3. A recommendation from the IDO
4. Demonstrable achievements including active participation in and/or organization of clubs, competitions,
and activities
5. No violation of the rules and regulations of UIC
6. A panel composed of the deans or their representatives will decide on successful candidates and provide
the name list to IDO. IDO will submit the final name list and supporting documents to Financial Aid
Committee.
