School administration was made aware of a concerning phone call regarding a potential bomb threat to the school. School personnel immediately notified RPD, who provided guidance and support to complete all necessary protocols. During the event, classes were able to continue without interruption While RPD was still at Cope Middle School, one of our school Safety Officers was notified by a Cope MS student that a student threw away something suspicious in one of the restroom trash cans. The Safety Officer responded immediately by securing the restroom, and after a quick search found a loaded handgun. School administration immediately notified and worked with the Redlands Police Department to retrieve the gun and to identify, isolate, and search the two students involved. The school was deemed safe and secure. ‘The students received guidance and counseling, and the school is addressing disciplinary matters administratively. Subsequently, the students involved were transported to juvenile hall. As of today, it is still an ongoing investigation that the District and school are closely working with Redlands Police Department. We understand that these situations can be unsettling, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff. The swift action taken by our dedicated Safety team, Redlands Police Department, and administration to address this matter underscores our commitment to maintaining a secure educational environment. Rest assured that the safety and security of our students remain our highest priority. Lastly, we extend our heartfelt appreciation to the courageous student who spoke with our Safety Officer and shared what they saw near the restroom. La administracién de la escuela tuvo conocimiento de una llamada telefénica preocupante sobre una posible amenaza de bomba a la escuela. El personal de la escuela notificé de inmediato al Departamento de Policia de Redlands, quien brindé orientacién y apoyo para completar todos los protocolos necesarios. Durante el evento las clases pudieron continuar sin interrupcién. Mientras la policia de Redlands todavia estaba en la escuela secundaria Cope, un estudiante de Cope notificé a uno de nuestros oficiales de seguridad escolar que un estudiante habia tirado algo sospechoso en uno de los botes de basura del bafio. El Oficial de Seguridad respondié mediatamente asegurando el bafio y después de una busqueda répida encontré una pistola cargada. La administracién de la escuela notificé de inmediato y trabajé con el Departamento de Policia de Redlands para recuperar el arma e identificar, aislar y registrar a los dos estudiantes involucrados. La escuela se consideré segura y protegida. Los estudiantes recibieron orientacién y asesoramiento, y la escuela est abordando los asuntos disciplinarios administrativamente. Posteriormente, los estudiantes involucrados fueron trasladados al centro de menores. Hasta el dia de hoy, todavia hay una investigaci6n en curso de que el Distrito y la escuela estan trabajando estrechamente con el Departamento de Policia de Redlands. Entendemos que estas situaciones pueden ser inquietantes y apreciamos su comprensién y cooperacién mientras priorizamos la seguridad de nuestros estudiantes y personal. La rapida accién tomada por nuestro dedicado equipo de seguridad, el Departamento de Policia de Redlands y la administracién para abordar este asunto subraya nuestro compromiso de mantener un entorno educativo seguro.
