“Importance of Waste Management and Segregation”

Waste Management:
Also called as Waste Disposal. The activities and actions required to
manage waste from its inception to its final disposal. This includes the
collection, transport, treatment, and disposal of waste, together with
monitoring and regulation of the waste management process.

Segregation:
The action or state of setting something apart from other things or
also known as Waste Sorting. It is the process by which waste is separated
into different elements or components to dispose them according to their
properties.
Reasons why we should segregate properly:
• For public health.
• Segregated waste is also often cheaper to dispose.
• To cause of soil, air, and water pollution.
• For environmental protection.
• Easier to collect for the community.
• May affect the animals, plants, and also the humanity if not done properly.

The 4 R’s of the Environment:

The order of priority of actions to be taken to reduce the amount of
waste generated, and to improve overall waste management
processes and programs, also called as Waste Hierarchy.
Waste Hierarchy:
The Waste Hierarchy consists of 4 R’s as follows:

 Reduce

 Reuse

 Recycle

 Repair

REDUCE
- The preferred approach to waste management because waste that never
gets created doesn’t have waste management costs.
- Reduce your plastic footprint. Cut down on your consumption of goods
that contain excessive plastic trash, don’t buy it.

plastic.
RECYCLE
- Recycled items are put through a process that makes it possible to create
new products out of the materials from the old ones.
