Description
• Hydrothermal vents are submarine hot springs, spitting out hot
water but are not volcanoes.
• Hydrothermal vents are the result of seawater draining down
opening through pin of the ocean crust around spreading centers or
subduction zones.
• Hydrothermal vents act as natural plumbing systems that transport
heat and chemicals from the interior of the Earth and that help
regulate global ocean chemistry.
