STAGGERED CONNECTIONS
This type of bolt arrangement is used to maximized the effective or usable area in a connection. Since there are space
limitations in a connection, more than one layer is necessary to accommodate the needed number of bolts in a connection.

is shown in the figure. A36 steel is used, and
holes are for 22mm-diameter bolts. Determine
the design and allowable strength of the member.
