1. GENERAL

1.1 Scope

This specification and KBR Purchasing Standard MB2-1PS cover the requirements for draft fans and drivers
used in furnace and boiler installations.

1.2 KBR Documents, Codes, and Industry Standards

The following documents are referenced herein and form part of the Order. Additional KBR documents, when
applicable, will be listed in the Requisition. Applicable dates of issue of industry standards and codes shall be
as indicated in the KBR Technical Standards MB15-1TS.

1.3 Quotation Requirements

1.3.1 The quotation shall include a tabulation and definition of the unit prices for each of the following items,
when applicable:

a. fan
b. driver(s) including gears and accessories
c. damper and damper operator
d. stack
e. surface preparation and paint
f. packaging
g. erection Services
h. freight

1.3.2 The Bidder shall make an alternate quotation for supplying the design and detailed shop drawings only for
a fan mounted stack, when applicable.

1.3.3 The Bidder shall furnish with the quotation four copies plus one reproducible transparency of the
following:

a. Data Sheets: Containing the requested information. (reproducible transparencies of Purchaser's Data
Sheets will be sent with the inquiry). A completed Noise Data Sheet with expected noise levels shall also
be submitted.

b. Fan Performance Curves: including efficiency, head, and horsepower for the speed (in RPM) of the
specified operating conditions.

c. Fan Outline Drawings: showing principal dimensions of the fan in particular location of the base, and the
gas inlet and outlet connections.

d. Driver Outline Drawings: showing the principal dimensions of the driver and in particular the location of the
base, the location of the steam inlet and exhaust connection (for turbines), the size and type of motors and
the rotation of the power-output shaft of the driver of gear.

e. Miscellaneous Supplier Data: information required by the Purchaser to make the unit operational as follows:

1. Auxiliary requirements such as instrument air, bearing cooling water, electricity for lube oil heaters, etc.

2. Extent of shop fabrication and required field fabrication.

3. Extent of shop balancing of rotating elements and provisions required for balancing in the field.

4. Moment of inertia (WR ) of complete assembly.

5. Data and/or drawings indicating all bracing or blocking used for shipping purposes and the specific
method of weatherproofing and packaging.

6. Requirements specified by the Seller for modifications (if any) to the duct system to comply with
Article 1.4.

7. Turbine nozzle ring pressure vs. bracket horsepower curves.

8. If a friction fit is used between hubs and the central disc, a calculation shall be made, with copies
provided, demonstrating adequate bolting friction force at operating conditions (plus 50% margin for
thermal transients in I.D. fans). This requirement may be waived if the fan tip speed is less than 250
ft/s (76 m/s).

9. Provide calculated critical speed of the rotor inclusive of flexibilities of bearing housing and fabricated
pedestal and mass of coupling parts. The Seller shall demonstrate that the lowest critical speed is at
least 120% of the maximum continuous operating speed and report the calculated mode shape.

1.4 Seller's Guarantee

1.4.1 The Seller's guarantee shall be based on the condition that the supports, connecting ducts, and other
Seller requirements have been met by the Purchaser in accordance with the Sellers instructions. The Seller
shall be responsible for specifying and soliciting all information required from the Purchaser.

a. Drawings and data will be provided by Purchaser as preliminary reference drawings with the Inquiry.

b. Checked final drawings, incorporating the Seller's instructions (if any) will be submitted to the Seller for
approval and comments.

1.4.2 The Seller shall guarantee the fan performance with the specified maximum design capacity and static
head when the fan is installed in the duct system as described and shown on the attachments to the Inquiry.
Fan speed and horsepower shall not exceed 105% of the values specified in the quotation for the maximum
design operation. Turbine horsepower shall be determined by means of the steam chest pressure curves
supplied by the turbine Seller. Motor horsepower shall be determined by ammeter readings.

1.4.3 The Seller shall specify the size and location of the test connections, and the procedure to be followed in
establishing the fan performance. In lieu of these instructions, fan capacity performance will be based on
furnace fuel flow measurements and excess air readings taken in the fan suction duct.

1.4.4 The Seller shall accept full responsibility for all component parts of the complete fan assembly in regard to
design, selection, fabrication, and coordination of the various components.

a. The fact that the Seller may sub-contract the manufacture of component parts or that sub-Suppliers may be
specified by the Purchaser, does not alter the conditions of the responsibilities.

b. For the case where the turbine and/or motor is supplied by the Purchaser, the above guarantee shall
remain unchanged except that the fan Seller will be relieved of any guarantee or warranty that the driver
manufacturer has issued to the Purchaser.

1.5 Drawings and Data to be Furnished by the Seller

1.5.1 Certified outline drawings for the fan and driver with auxiliary equipment shall show all details and
information required by the Purchaser to make the unit operational. This includes as a minimum, the following:

a. Certification of the data supplied by the Seller as a Bidder in Article 1.3.

b. The size, location, mounting details, and ratings of all connections of pipes, flanges, ducts, electrical and
instrument items; including any special provision required to satisfy the guarantees stated herein.

c. Foundation or base loadings, anchor bolt locations, and base details, suitable for the Purchaser's
requirements for the design of the foundation and/or support structure.

d. Disposition of each connection if not evident from Subparagraph 1.5.1b. (i.e., open drain with valve, trapped
drain, etc.).

e. Horizontal and vertical clearances necessary for dismantling or maintenance purposes, and location of
lifting lugs.

f. Expansions imposed by the fan housing on the connecting duct system.

g. Permissible imposed loads (approximate) on the fan housing, both gravity and thermal, due to the
connecting duct system.

h. Size and location of test connections and procedures required to establish fan performance.

i. Direction of rotation of fans, drivers, and power-output shaft of gears.

1.5.2 Certified wiring diagrams for auxiliary systems shall be supplied when applicable. These drawings shall
clearly indicate the extent of the portions to be supplied by both the Seller and Purchaser.

1.5.3 The installation, maintenance, and operating instructions shall include the following for each equipment
component:

a. cross-sectional drawings
b. complete parts list
c. priced recommended spare parts list for one year operation
d. lubrication schedule
e. Recommended maximum shaft vibration when other than as specified in Article 2.4.

1.5.4 Detailed shop drawings for fan mounted stacks required under Subparagraph 1.3.2 shall be made on
standard size drawing paper, approximately 22 in. x 34 in. (560 mm x 865 mm).

2. DESIGN

2.1 Definitions

2.1.1 "Normal Design Capacity," is the condition at which the usual operation prevails and the optimum
efficiency is desired. The speed and power at this condition are termed "Normal Design Speed" and "Normal
Design Load" respectively.

2.1.2 "Maximum Design Capacity," is the condition at which the maximum volume is required in order to satisfy
all anticipated operating conditions. The speed and power at this condition are termed "Maximum Design
Speed" and "Maximum Design Load" respectively.

2.1.3 "Start-Up Capacity," is the condition at which the specified volume and pressure is obtained by the use of
a start-up motor only, and the turbine is not imparting power.

2.1.4 "Static Pressure," shall be specified on the data sheets in inches of water, WG, (centimeters of mercury)
and shall not include pressure loss across the damper or fan or both. Unless otherwise specified, the high
pressure side of an induced draft fan and the low pressure side of a forced draft fan shall be considered to be at
atmospheric pressure.

2.2 General

2.2.1 Unless otherwise specified, fans shall be suitable for the specified operating conditions and the operating
and mechanical requirements contained herein.

2.2.2 Fans shall be mechanically designed and constructed to be suitable for continuous operation for each of
the following conditions:

a. at a speed of 105% of maximum design speed.

b. at a temperature of 100ºF (38ºC) above the specified inlet temperature.

2.2.3 The critical speed (tip speed) of the rotating elements of the fan shall be minimum of 135% of design
speed.

2.2.4 Fan arrangement relative to inlet, discharge, and driver locations, as specified on the Fan Data Sheet,
shall be oriented on the basis of facing that side of the fan that clockwise rotation is observed.

2.2.5 All welding and selection of electrodes shall be in accordance with KBR Technical Standard 4-7TS.

2.3 Driver Load Ratings

2.3.1 The specified type of driver shall be suitable for the fan operating loads, including gear and coupling
losses, plus the off power drag of the start-up motor, and multiplied by the power rating factors listed in the
Paragraph 2.3.2.

a. All driver ratings shall be based on brake horsepower.

b. For steam turbines, the ratings shall be measured at maximum design speed and minimum steam
pressure.

2.3.2 Power rating factors are as follows. Unless otherwise specified, motors shall have a service factor (S.F.)
of 1.15:

2.4 Vibration and Balance of Fan

2.4.1 Rotating elements shall be statically and dynamically balanced in the shop at the normal operating speed;
except when field balancing is approved at the time of quotation. High speed coupling assemblies shall be
dynamically balanced when the driver speed exceeds 2900 rpm for any operating point.

2.4.2 The maximum double amplitude of the shaft vibration, in any plane, at the maximum design speed, shall
be as follows:

2.4.3 Vibration measurements shall be taken on the shaft adjacent to the bearing housing; however, when this
is impractical, measurements may be taken on the bearing housing and the values of Paragraph 2.4.2 shall be
multiplied by 0.30.

2.5 Fan Bearings

2.5.1 Bearings shall be heavy duty, self-aligning, roller or sleeve type, and either air cooled or water cooled.

2.5.2 Bearings shall be suitable for continuous operation at the maximum design speed and shall maintain a
lubricant outlet temperature not to exceed 170ºF (77ºC) based on ambient temperature of 100ºF (38ºC).

2.5.3 Bearing housings shall be sealed against loss of lubricant and against the entrance of water or foreign
matter.

2.5.4 Water cooled bearings shall be provided with drains or other suitable means to prevent freezing of the
coolant during shutdown conditions.

2.5.5 Bearings shall have pedestals with sole plates independent of the fan housings. Bearing pedestals
mounted in line with the fan inlet shall be provided with suitably designed mounting boxes to minimize the
restrictions to the inlet air stream.

2.6 Fan Shaft Couplings

2.6.1 Couplings with guards shall be of the flexible diaphragm type and easily removable. Couplings shall be
designed to be suitable for the imposed torque and thermal expansion.

2.6.2 The specific make, type, and manufacturer of the coupling shall be approved by the Purchaser.

2.6.3 The complete coupling shall be shop mounted except when the driver is supplied by the Purchaser. In
this case, the fan half shall be shop mounted and the driver half shall be drilled and shipped in accordance with
the Purchaser's instructions.

2.6.4 Spacer type couplings shall be provided between the driver and gear and fan to minimize angularity from
misalignment and to permit in place hub removal.

2.7 Impellers and Housings

2.7.1 Impellers shall be of complete welded construction. Stabilizer or tie rods shall not be used. Impeller
blades and shroud rings shall be a minimum of 3/16 in. (5 mm) steel plate and shall be welded to a heavy duty
center plate. For induced draft fans, an interference fit of 0.001 in/in (mm/mm) shall be provided between rotor
flanges and the shaft.

2.7.2 Housings shall be of heavy duty, welded construction, and shall not be less than 3/16 in. (5 mm) steel
plate, adequately reinforced.

2.7.3 Housing shall be provided with a removable section to enable replacement or repair of the impeller.

2.7.4 Housings shall be designed and constructed to withstand the erosive and corrosive effects of the product
handled as specified on the Fan Data Sheets.

2.7.5 Adequately sized doors shall be provided in the housing scroll and inlet box as required to permit access
into the interior.

2.7.6 Fan housings supporting or partially supporting a stack or diffuser shall be designed and constructed to
support the imposed loads.

2.7.7 When applicable, fan housing bases shall be designed to limit the concrete pier to imposed temperatures
that are deemed not to adversely affect the concrete by the Seller.

2.7.8 Fan housing bases shall be designed to minimize the thermal expansion stresses imparted to the
foundation or support steel. When the base is designed to expand relative to the support, the Seller shall
specify the required details. Expansion or sliding on concrete or grout shall not be permitted.

2.8 Dampers

2.8.1 Dampers shall be the multi-blade type with louvered or opposed blade design. The damper shall be of
heavy construction suitable for the imposed loadings, vibration, and temperature.

2.8.2 Dampers shall be designed to move to the open position when the fan is operating in the event of failure
of the linkage or the damper control mechanism.

2.8.3 Dampers shall have suitable positive linkages connected to the damper operators located or manually
operable from the base of the fan.

a. Manual damper operators shall be a mechanical device designed so that one man can position the damper
blade in any desired position.

b. Automatic damper operators shall consist of an air cylinder operating under the resistance of a spring.

2.9 Drivers and Reduction Gears

2.9.1 Drivers shall be in accordance with the applicable parts of the following specifications except as modified
herein or in the Order.

a. Steam Turbines - API 611

b. Electric Motors - KBR Technical Specification MJ46-1E.

2.9.2 Reduction gears shall be provided when specified or as an approved Seller's optional bid. The make,
type, and manufacturer of the gear shall be approved by the Purchaser.

2.9.3 Reduction gears shall be designed in accordance with safety factors of AGMA Standards (American Gear
Manufacturers Association).

2.9.4 Separately coupled reduction gear units shall be furnished with a forced feed lubrication system if over
200 HP, a high speed coupling, and a sole plate common to both driver and gear unit. When two drivers are
used with forced feed lubrication, the lubrication system shall be common to both.

2.9.5 The rotation, specified as facing the coupling end on the Data Sheets, shall be construed to mean facing
the power output coupling end for a driver and reduction gear unit.

2.9.6 Reduction gears shall be specified as right or left offset meaning the relation of the power-output (low
speed) shaft relative to the power-input (high speed) when facing the output coupling.

2.10 Start-Up Motors

Start-up motors shall be connected directly in line on the shaft with the turbine driver and shall be mechanically
suitable for continuous rotation with power off. The Seller's optional bid to provide a disconnecting clutch for the
start-up motor shall be considered if economical and feasible.

2.11 Shafts

2.11.1 Shafts shall be designed to transmit the maximum driver horsepower and to withstand the operation for
the entire head-capacity range specified.

2.11.2 Shafts on induced draft fans shall be heat treated and stress relieved with the axis vertical in the
following instances:

a. shafts which are 10 in. (255 mm) or greater in diameter and which have a design temperature of 500ºF
(260ºC) or greater.

b. shafts having a design temperature of 650ºF (344ºC) or greater.

c. shafts having a diameter exceeding 18 in. (455 mm) and which have a design temperature of 300ºF
(283ºC) or greater.

2.12 Piping and Connections

2.12.1 Flanged piping connections shall be in accordance with ASME B16.5 for the required pressure
temperature ratings and shall be furnished with studs for any blind holes. Bolts for the inlet and outlet flanges of
the fan shall be provided and shall be suitable for a grip of 1/4 in. (6 mm) to 3/4 in. (19 mm) on the mating
flange.

2.12.2 Water and oil piping and connections shall not be less than 3/8 in. nominal size. Casing drain
connections shall not be less than 1/2 in. nominal size. Threaded connections shall be NPT and drilled and
tapped in accordance with ASME B1.20.1. Tapped holes connecting to piping furnished by the Purchaser shall
be provided with threaded plugs.

2.13 Insulation

Unless specified on the Data Sheets, no insulation on the fan housing shall be required. Housings for induced
draft fans, particularly on the vertical end planes facing the bearing support structures, shall be insulated to limit
concrete temperatures.

2.14 Surface Preparation and Painting

Surface preparation and painting of the weather-exposed surfaces shall conform to the paint notes specified on
the Data Sheets. In lieu of any specified paint notes, the Seller's standards shall apply, provided the paint and
application is suitable for the imposed temperature.

2.15 Noise Levels

Unless otherwise specified, the fan assembly shall be designed to operate at a maximum noise level of 90 dBA
measured at a distance of 3 ft. (1 m) from the casing at ear level (5 ft.-4 in.) (1625 mm).

2.16 Emergency Overspeed

The emergency overspeed trips on turbines shall be provided with an explosion proof switch for manual
resetting.

3. MATERIALS

3.1 General

3.1.1 Except as otherwise specified herein and on the Data Sheets all parts shall be of materials in accordance
with the Seller's standards for the operating conditions.

3.1.2 The fan inboard bearing block shall be integrated with the driver and gear concrete block to stabilize
thermal and other displacements that affect alignment.

3.1.3 Adequate anchor bolt reinforcement and placement shall be provided to prevent diaphragming of the
mounting plate.
