b. Results of grain size determination tests shall be as described in Paragraph 3.1.1.

c. Dimensional measurements, measurement technique, and manufacturing procedure for non-standard

fittings.

1.3.2 Satisfactory evidence shall be furnished by the manufacturer that the thermocouples required by
Paragraph 2.2.1 of this specification were checked before and after heat treatment of the material and that the
thermocouples were found to be properly calibrated. Similarly, a continuous furnace shall be shown to have
been monitored with properly calibrated thermocouples.

1.3.3 Heat treatment procedures and records of time and temperature shall be made available upon request of
the Purchaser.

1.4 Design Qualification

1.4.1 The Supplier shall provide appropriate design calculations for the fitting. The design of the fittings shall be
established by mathematical analyses contained in nationally recognized pressure vessel or piping codes.
Calculations shall be substantiated by one of the following:

a. Experimental stress analysis, such as described in ASME Section VIII, Division 2, Appendix 6.

b. Proof test in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1, UG-101.

1.4.2 Interpolations may be made between sizes, wall thicknesses, and pressure classes, and analogies
between related materials may be made. Previously qualified parts need not be requalified.

2. MATERIALS

2.1 Solution Annealing

Material shall be solution annealed for Ni-Fe-Cr Alloy (UNS N08811) in accordance with this specification and:

a. ASME SB-407 for Seamless Cold Drawn Pipe or Tube, (See Note 1)
b. ASME SB-408 for Cold Drawn Rod or Bar,
c. ASME SB-564 for Forging, and
d. ASME SB-366 for Wrought Fittings.

NOTES:

1. The manufacturer may request an exception to cold drawn pipe or tube for large diameters as long as the
diameter and wall thickness tolerances are within the requirements of ASME SB-407.

2. The proprietary alloy HK-4M furnished by Sumitomo shall be manufactured in strict accordance with
Sumitomo guidelines and requirements (chemistry, heat treatment, etc.) and shall comply with the
applicable requirements of this specification, except that the chemistry shall be modified to contain an
absolute minimum of 25.0% chromium.

2.2 Heat Treatment

2.2.1 Solution annealing shall conform to the following requirements:

a. Soaking temperature shall be 2100oF (1150oC) minimum followed by quenching in water or rapidly cooling
by an air blast.

b. Holding time shall be commensurate with the thickness and sufficient to obtain the required grain size.

c. A continuous furnace shall be shown to have been monitored with properly calibrated thermocouples or
optical pyrometers. The uniformity of a batch solution heat treatment temperature shall be verified by
calibrated thermocouple attached to the parts. At least two thermocouples are required: one each shall be
located at the expected hottest and coldest portion of the part or batch being heat treated.

2.2.2 Pickling after solution annealing may be omitted, provided the components are cleaned by mechanical or
other means inside and out to a degree which will permit satisfactory visual inspection after solution annealing.

2.2.3 Solution annealing shall be performed after bending, machining, forging, or forming.

2.2.4 Forgings shall be preferably hollow forged. Parts made by machining from solid forged rounds require
that:

a. The Purchaser be so notified.

b. Heat treatment is performed after rough machining to shape.

c. The grain size of samples from these forgings shall be determined after rough machining and solution heat
treatment.

3. TESTING, INSPECTION, AND REJECTION

3.1 Testing

3.1.1 One grain size determination test shall be made for each batch heat treatment lot. For continuous heat
treatment, one sample for each day's production shall be tested. The grain size number or a photo-micrograph
shall be reported. The grain size shall conform to an average grain size of ASTM No. 5 or coarser.

3.1.2 Hydrostatic pressure test shall be done in accordance with 7.3.1 of ASME SB-407. The pressure shall be
continuously maintained for a minimum of 10 minutes and shall then be reduced by a factor of 1.3 and
maintained till such time as may be necessary to conduct examination for leakage. Examination for leakage
shall be made at all joints and shall show no evidence of weeping or leakage.

3.1.3 Nickel-Iron-Chromium alloy tubes for manifolds shall be ultrasonic thickness tested at 12 inch (300 mm)
intervals to determine the minimum thickness of each length. Tests shall either scan a continuous
circumferential band or spot check at 90o intervals around the circumference. The minimum and maximum
thickness detected and its location shall be recorded.

3.2 Inspection

Inspection of all surfaces of forgings and wrought fittings after final machining shall be by the liquid penetrant
technique. The liquid penetrant examination method and acceptance criteria shall be in accordance with ASME
Section VIII, Section 2, Appendix 9, Article 9.2.

3.3 Rejection

Rejection will be in accordance with paragraph:

a. 15 of ASME SB-407 for Seamless Cold Drawn Pipe or Tube,

b. 15 of ASME SB-408 for Cold Drawn Rod or Bar,
c. 13 of ASME SB-564 for Forging, and
d. 10 of ASME SB-366 for Wrought Fittings.
