A Detailed Lesson Plan in

English 10

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Differentiate verbal communication from nonverbal communication.
b. Appreciate the value of verbal and nonverbal cues in communication.
c. Perform a specific scene from a particular play or movie using verbal and nonverbal
communication.

II. Subject matter

Materials: Visual Aids (cartolina), answer sheets, paper strips

1. Greetings
“Good Morning class!” “Good morning sir!”
“How are you feeling today?” “We are fine sir.”

2. Checking of attendance

“Before we start our discussion today, let’s
first reach an agreement. Now I want you to listen
to me carefully. I have here a set of classroom
rules that I have prepare in order for you to be
guided and have a smooth discussion throughout
our class.

B. Motivation

“Today, we are going to have some fun by


having a game that I think you are all familiar
with. Sounds interesting right?”

“But before that, you will be grouped into two (The students will be grouped into two.)
first.”

“Yes ma’am.”
“Do you know the game, charades?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“That’s good. So, you are already familiar with
the mechanics of the game, right?”

“I have here pieces of paper and all of them


contain scenarios. One representative from each
group will pick a piece of paper and he/she will
act whatever scenario he picked. The other group
will guess the act. Each correct answer is
equivalent to 1 point. The group that has the most
guessed scenarios is the winner. “Yes ma’am.”
Is that clear?”

“If that’s the case, let’s start the game.” The Scenarios:
Group 1
1. Drinking water
2. Dancing
3. Writing
4. Drawing
5. Applying make up
Group 2
1. Sleeping
2. Taking selfies
3. Playing golf
4. Singing
5. Doing laundry

C. Presentation

“Now, the activity that we did has something to


do with our topic for today.”

How were you able to guess the scenario?” Anna: “I was able to guess the scenario ma’am
because my classmate made the actions clear for
us to guess.”
“Very good! Anna was able to guess the scenario
because the actions made by your classmate is
clear.”

“So, it means that we can communicate not just


through the use of words but also through
actions.”

“Based on our activity, what do you think our


topic today.”

“Very good! It might be about actions. What James: “Actions ma’am.”

In other words, nonverbal communication is an
interaction without the use of words. Our actions
and behaviour can be used instead.

communication is very important.

E. Application
Now, with the same group a while ago, you are (The students will do the activity.)
going to role play about a particular scene from a
movie or play of your choice. Verbal
communication and nonverbal communication
should be seen in your presentation.
F. Generalization
Can someone differentiate verbal communication
from nonverbal communication? Verbal communication is the use of words to
convey a message or to express a feeling to
someone, while nonverbal communication is the
interaction to others without the use of words but
actions and behaviour, instead.
