3rd Periodic Test

Class: UV
Subject: Science
Time: 2 hrs. Max Marks: 40
General Instructions:
i) All questions are compulsory.
ii) The question paper has three sections and 15 questions. All questions are compulsory.
iii) Section–A has 7 questions of 2 marks each; Section–B has 6 questions of 3 marks each; and Section–C
has 2 case-based questions of 4 marks each.
iv) Internal choices have been provided in some questions. A student has to attempt only one of the
alternatives in such questions.
v) Clearly mention the name, class and section on the answer script.
vi) Students need to scan and send their answer sheets to the following email id of the teachers within “15 minutes”
of completion of the allotted time for the exam. (Email id’s of teachers given at the end of the question paper)

Section A
4+ 4-
1. Explain why C or C does not exist?

2. An element A is placed in period 2 and group 2, element B in period 1 and group 16, element C in
period 2 and group 16 and element D in period 1 and group 17 of the periodic table respectively.
i) Which is the most metallic element and which is the most non-metallic element.
ii) Give the order of the atomic size.
iii) What type (ionic or covalent) of compound is formed by the combination of B and C?
iv) What type (ionic or covalent) of compound is formed by the combination of A and D?

3. Given below is an energy flow diagram. Study it carefully and answer the following
questions.
i. How much energy (in units) will pass from producers to herbivores?
ii. How much energy (in units) will pass from to herbivores to carnivores?
iii. Which law is being exhibited for transfer of energy?

OR

Explain bio-magnification with suitable example.

4. Study the following cross showing self-pollination in F1. Fill in the blank and answer the question
that follows:

Parents RRYY X rryy

(Round Yellow) (Wrinkled green)
F1 → RrYy X ?
b. What are the combinations of characters in the F2 progeny? Mention the ratio.
OR
A woman has only daughters. Analyze the situation and provide a suitable example.
5. Explain one temporary and one permanent method of contraception.

6. How does a solenoid behave like a magnet? Can you determine the north and south
poles of a current-carrying solenoid with the help of a bar magnet? Explain.
OR
A coil of insulated copper wire is connected to a galvanometer. What will happen if a bar magnet is
pushed into the coil (ii) held stationary inside the coil?

7. Explain the process of reproduction in Rhizopus.

Section B
8. a). Draw the structural formula for the following: Give the IUPAC name in each case.
(i) A two-carbon hydrocarbon containing a double bond
(ii) The first member of the alkyne series.
b). What is a homologous series? Give an example.

9. (a) Consider the following arrangement of elements in groups and periods:

Group 1 2 13 14 15 16 17 18
Period 1 A B
Period 2 C D E F G H I J
Answer the following questions:
(i) Which is a noble gas?
(ii) Identify a halogen.
(iii)What is the valency of element G?
(iv) Give the formula for the molecule formed on combination of D with G.
(b) Give two limitations of the Mendeleev’s periodic table.

10. Explain the process of double fertilization with diagram.

11. (a) Calculate the resistance of 1 km long copper wire of radius 1 mm. Resistivity of the copper is
1.72 x 10-8 Ω m.
(b) Draw a schematic diagram of a circuit consisting of a battery of 4 cells of
2V each connected to a key, an ammeter and two resistors of 2 Ω and
3 Ω respectively in series and a voltmeter to measure potential difference across 3 Ω.

13. How is Ozone layer formed? Mention its importance. What are the causes of its depletion?

Section C
This section has 02 case-based questions (14 and 15). Each case is followed by 03 sub questions (a, b
and c). Parts a and b are compulsory. However, an internal choice has been provided in part c
14. The genotype of green stemmed tomato plants is denoted as GG and that of purple stemmed tomato
plants as gg. When these two are crossed:
i. What colour of stem would you expect in their F1 Progeny?
ii. Give the percentage of purple stemmed plants if F1 plants are self- pollinated. (Show the
calculation for percentage)
iii. In what ratio would you find the genotypes GG and Gg in the F2 progeny?
iv. What is the term used for this type of cross?
