INTRODUCTION

1
1.1 ABOUT THE TOPIC
INDUSTRY
Industry is a classification that refers to groups of companies that are related based on their
primary business activities. In modern economies, there are

dozens of industry classifications, which are typically grouped into larger categories called
sectors, with individual companies being classified into an industry based on their largest
sources of revenue.

MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

Manufacturing industry refers to those industries which involve in the manufacturing and
processing of items and indulge in either creation of new commodities or in value addition.
The manufacturing industry accounts for a significant share of the industrial sector in
developed countries. The final products can either serves as a finished good for sale to
customers or as intermediate goods used in the production process. Manufacturing industries
are the chief wealth producing sectors of an economy. These industries use various
technologies and methods widely known as manufacturing process management.
Manufacturing industries are broadly categorized into engineering industries, construction
industries, electronics industries, chemical industries, energy industries, textile industries,
food and beverage industries, metalworking industries, plastic industries, transport and
telecommunication industries. Manufacturing industries are important for an economy as they
employ a huge share of the labour force and produce materials required by sectors of strategic
importance such as national infrastructure and defence. Manufacturing has emerged as one of
the high growth sectors in India. Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, had launched
the ‘Make in India’ program to place India on the world map as a manufacturing hub and
give global recognition to the Indian economy.

Companies today have strategies for recruiting, retaining and extending products and services
to customers in order to develop customer loyalty and to retain customers for the long-term.
Essentially, we are looking at long-term customer relationship management, and relationship
marketing. Companies may have in the past looked at satisfying the needs of large target
groups or segments, today they look more at marketing to profitable individuals whom they
aim to retain for as long as possible.

2
Customer satisfaction measures how well the expectations of a customer concerning a
product or service provided by your company have been met. Customer satisfaction is an
abstract concept and involves such factors as the quality of the product, the quality of the
service provided, the atmosphere of the location where the product or service is purchased,
and the price of the product or service Company meet or surpass a customer's expectation.
Customer satisfaction is important because it provides marketers and business owners with a
metric that they can use to manage and improve their businesses.

So the purpose of marketing centers very much upon creation of value and a long- term
customer relationship. Customer satisfaction is a central concept to this proposal. A
marketing company aims to set a level of expectation at which customers are satisfied that
value is delivered through an exchange process.

Be careful not to set your satisfaction level too low because your customers will go to
competitors. On the other hand, try not to set your satisfaction level too high because if you
don’t achieve that level, then your customers will also go to

competitors. So, the aim is to satisfy customers so that they come back and buy it again.
This is fundamental to relationship marketing and customer relationship management.

Businesses often use customer satisfaction surveys to gauge customer satisfaction. These
surveys are used to gather information about customer satisfaction. Typical areas addressed
in the surveys include:

● Quality of product

● Value of product relative to price - a function of quality and price

• Time issues, such as product availability, availability of sales assistance,

3
time waiting at checkout, and delivery time

• Atmosphere of store, such as cleanliness, organisation, and enjoyable shopping environment

Organisations need to retain existing customers while targeting non- customers.Measuring

customer satisfaction provides an indication of how

successful the organisation is at providing products and/or services to the marketplace.

"Customer satisfaction is measured at the individual level, but it is almost always reported
at an aggregate level. It can be, and often is, measured along various dimensions.

A hotel, for example, might ask customers to rate their experience with its front desk and
check-in service, with the room, with the amenities in the room, with the

restaurants, and so on. Additionally, in a holistic sense, the hotel might ask about overall
satisfaction 'with your stay.'"

1.2 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

The objective of my project is divided into various parts:

•To get an overview of Pinex.

•To know about the products and services offered by Pine Laminates private ltd.

•To understand customers’ perception about Pine Laminates private ltd.

4
• To understand strengths & weaknesses of Pine Laminates private ltd.

1.3 REVIEW OF LITERATURE

A considerable body of literature in a range of different disciplines exists on consumption,
consumer behaviour, and consumer decision-making process. Research in economics,
business, marketing, psychology and sociology domains studies consumer behaviour from
different theoretical premises: “for economists, consumption is used to produce utility; for
sociologists, it is a means of stratification; for anthropologists – a matter of ritual and
symbol; for psychologists – the means to satisfy or express physiological and emotional
needs; and for business, it is a way of making money”(Fine 1997).

For more than a decade now, a range of studies that address environmentally sound
consumer behaviour, e.g. car use, waste sorting, minimisation and recycling practices, have
been conducted. However, few studies evaluated consumer acceptance of the PSS concept
– a consumption based on non-ownership of physical products, see, for example, studies on
car sharing schemes (Schrader 1999; Meijkamp 2000), ski rental and washing services
(Hirschl, Konrad et al. 2001).

One reason explaining the lack of studies in the area could be that, there are still not many
PSS schemes in place to serve as test grounds. Another reason could be uniformity of
research focus. Most of consumer research focused on adopter categories, habits, attitudes
and intentions, rather than on actually measuring the satisfaction level with the service. The
reason is probably that PSS ideas have been promoted by researchers from the
environmental management, marketing, design and engineering fields, and to a lesser
extent by sociologists, who hold the banner of research in customer satisfaction.

1.4 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

I have used both the primary and secondary data to prepare the report. But most of the data
are collected from primary sources. I observed various activities of PINE LAMINATES
PVT LTD. My practical job experience in PINE LAMINATES PVT LTD was a great

5
source of information.

PRIMARY DATA
Primary data are those, which were collected afresh & for the first time and thus happen to
be original in character. However, there are many methods of collecting the primary data;
all have not been used for the purpose of this project. The ones that have been used are:

● Informal Interviews
● Observation
● Day to day desk job
● Face to face discussions

SECONDARY DATA
Secondary data is collected from previous researches and literature to fill in the
respective project. The secondary data was collected through:

● Text book
● E-Books
● Websites

1.5 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

I have faced some problems in completing the report.

Those are as follows:

● Time limit to study and to analyse the topic perfectly.

● Confidential matters of the organisation.
● Unwillingness to give information from the officials.
● Restrictions of giving some information about sales policy.
