What to do when your JBL

Flip 5 does not charge
One common problem that you
might encounter with your JBL Flip 5
Bluetooth speaker is when its battery
doesn’t charge. This can be an
annoying experience especially if the
speaker is running low on power.
Here are the Flip troubleshooting
steps you need to do to fix the
problem.

Method 1: Perform a factory

reset
A factory reset or hard reset will wipe
out data on this Bluetooth speaker
and bring it back to its default
settings. This is a useful
troubleshooting step to perform
whenever you are experiencing
problems with the device such as
when you can’t make a Bluetooth
connection or when there are
charging problems.

Time needed: 1 minute.

Hard reset the speaker

1. Turn on the device.

You can do this by pressing
on the power button.

2. Press and hold the Volume

up button and Play button.
Do this until the device turns
off which should be around 5
seconds.
3. Turn on the device.
You can do this by pressing
on the power button. The
device should now be in
pairing mode.

After performing these steps try

charging the device again.

Method 2: Replace the USB

cable
A defective charging cord will
prevent the Bluetooth speaker from
being charged. Some of the reasons
why a charging cord will not work
anymore are due to it being bent
constantly causing a cut on its wire
or the presence of dirt on its port.

To check if this is what’s causing the

problem try using a different USB
cable to charge the JBL Flip 5
Bluetooth speaker. You can use the
cord of your Android phone if it uses
a Type-C USB cable. If the device
charges then you will need to get a
new cable for your Bluetooth
speaker.

Method 3: Replace the

charger to fix won’t charge
problem
If you are using a defective charging
brick then chances are the battery of
the speaker will not get charged.
Some of the reasons why a charger
won’t work is if its USB port is
damaged or if it has a faulty internal
board. Try using a different chargers
then check if the issue still occurs.
You can use the charger of your
Android phone for this.

Method 4: Dirt present in the

charging port
If you constantly use this Bluetooth
speaker outdoors then chances are
the charging port will get sand or dirt
in it. This will prevent the speaker
from being charged when you
connect it to your charger. Try to
inspect the charging port of the
Bluetooth speaker and if you find
any dirt or debris then you can clean
this off using a toothpick or simply by
blowing to it until it gets removed.

Method 5: Faulty battery

One reason why the speaker won’t
charge is if it already has a defective
battery. If this is the cause of the
problem then replacing the battery
will fix this. It’s recommended that
you have this done at a service
center.

You might be wondering why the

battery gets defective. Some
reasons behind this include repeated
overcharging of the battery or
constant exposure to heat such as
when you leave the speaker under
the sun.

Method 6: Faulty circuit

board
It’s not uncommon for the circuit
board of the Bluetooth speaker to
get damaged. This can happen if
water gets inside the speaker or if
some electronic component fails to
work. If this is what’s causing the
problem then you will need to have
this fixed at a service center.
Having battery issues on your
Bluetooth speaker can be a
frustrating experience. Hopefully,
this solution will help you fix the
problem.
