Benefits of Joint Sealants
• Protect joints from incompressible materials, moisture, jet fuels, deicing chemicals,
etc. from infiltrating the joints.

• Reduction in Joint Spalling, Faulting, Erosion of the Base and Helps Protect Dowell
Bars.

• When designing a concrete pavement to last 20-40 years, it’s important to choose the
correct sealant to help promote a long life for your concrete pavement.

Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW)
International Airport
When DFW International Airport was first constructed in 1973,
they utilized D.S. Brown’s Delastic® Preformed Pavement
Seal for their apron.

50 years later and that same seal is still performing for DFW
International Airport!

In the photo you can see how the Delastic® seals have helped keep
this pavement in great condition. Because of the pavement’s condition,
very little maintenance has been needed and the maintenance group
was able to direct their attention on other needs of the airport.

FAA-Approved Joint Sealant: Recommendations
FAA P-605 – Hot Pour and Silicone / Cold-Poured Seals
• Best for sealing irregular joints and heavy-spalled pavements.
• Hot pour is recommended for sealing asphalt pavements.
• Silicone / Cold Poured Seals are recommended for asphalt-to-concrete joints.
• Silicone / Cold-Poured Seals are recommended for highly-irregular concrete joint widths.

FAA P-604 – Delastic Preformed Compression Seals

• Not for asphalt pavements.
• Recommended for new concrete pavements.
• Can be used for reseal projects if concrete joints are in good condition.

What About Reseal Projects for Delastic Preformed Compression Seal?
• Liquid Joint sealants should be used if the
majority of joints are highly irregular and
heavily spalled.

• Joints can be resurfaced by saw cutting and

cleaning to obtain consistent width in joints.

• Preformed Pavement Seals can be installed if

concrete joints are in good condition.

• Contact a D.S. Brown representative to

perform a site visit & provide a technical
report on sealant recommendations.
