1. If the permutation of the word WHITE is selected at random, how many of the
permutations
i. Begins with a consonant?
ii. Ends with a vowel?
iii. Has a consonant and vowels alternating?
2. Out of 5 Mathematician and 7 Statistician a committee consisting of 2 Mathematician
and 3 Statistician is to be formed. In how many ways this can be done if
a. There is no restriction
b. One particular Statistician should be included
c. Two particular Mathematicians can not be included on the committee.
3. The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is widely used by graduate school
of business as an entrance requirement. In one particular year, the mean score for the
GMAT was 485, with a standard deviation of 105. assuming that GMAT scores are
normally distributed, what is the probability that a randomly selected score from this
administration of the GMAT:

b. Is greater than 650?
c. Is less than 300?
d. Falls between 350 and 550, inclusive?
e. Is less than 700?
f. Is exactly 500?
g. If 500 applicants take the test, how many would you expect to score 590 or
below?
4. Suppose that a random variable X is a continuous given by

a) Is the fuction a pdf? Why? x2

b) Find CDF of f(x)
c) Calculate mean and standard deviation of X
d) Find P(X<1/2)

variable with the following probability density function
f(x) = cx(1-x) , 0<x<1

experience shows that the standard deviation for life of tires in the lot is 80kms. (5 pt)
A. Construct a 95% confidence interval for the mean life of tire in the lot is expected
to lie?
B. Test the mean life of tires in the lot as 512.5kms is true?
(At 5% level of significance, Z0.025=1.96, Z0.05=1.64, t0.025,99=1.9845, t0.05,99=1.67).
8. The following summary results are obtained from price and demand of a commodity
