We wish to stop a 120 hp, 240 V, 400 rpm motor by using the dynamic braking circuit.

If the nominal armature current is 400 A,

calculate:

1. The value of the braking resistor R if we want to limit the maximum braking current to 125 %

of its nominal value.

2. The instantaneous braking power [kW] when the m~tor has decelerated to 200 rpm .

Q5)
A 230 V shunt motor has a nominal armature current of 60 A. If the armature resistance is 0.15 0,

calculate the following:

1. The counter emf [VJ

2. The power supplied to the armature [W)

3. The mechanical power developed by the motor [kW] and [hp]

4. The initial starting current if the motor is directly connected across the 230 V line

5. The value of the starting resistor needed to limit the initial current to 115 A.
