Tax Notes

I've been chatting with a number of content creators about tax deductions and thought other
creators here might also be interested in what you can write off as a content creator.
The list below primarily applies to creators filing Schedule C in US and T2125 in Canada, but
you can still refer to the list if you're incorporated. Of course, none of this is financial advice.

These are general expenses that can apply to all content creators.
1. Bank fees
2. Business insurance
3. Commissions and affiliate fees

Home expenses
You can deduct a portion of your home expenses if you primarily work from home and have a
dedicated work area (including storage). Note that your workspace doesn’t need to be a whole
room; a workstation that’s only used for your business is sufficient.

3. Internet
4. Mortgage interest
5. Property taxes
6. Rent
7. Repairs and maintenance
8. Utilities
Vehicle expenses
If you’re using your vehicle to get from place to place for your business, you can write off a
portion of your vehicle expenses. This includes meeting other creators for collabs, attending

3. Insurance
4. License and registration
5. Loan interest
6. Parking fees
7. Repairs and maintenance
8. Tolls
Business meeting expenses
Whether it’s a quick coffee or a late lunch, having meaningful conversations about your work
over a meal can be a write-off. This includes discussing project details with another creator,
meeting your manager, and brainstorming ideas with a sponsor.
1. Business meals
2. Meeting space rental
3. Transportation
Business travel expenses
Business travel might be one of the best perks of being a content creator. Just be sure to keep
track of all of your expenses from the trip. This includes attending industry conferences in
another city, location-based photoshoots, and visiting out-of-town sponsors at their offices.
1. Accommodations
2. Business travel
3. Food and drinks

Think I missed something? Please let me know! I would love to get your feedback and update
this list further. Also, if you need more details about each of these expenses. you can check out
