Abdellah’s Theory is Better than Henderson’s

Introduction
In the Old times, Nursing Experts devote themselves to improve the
Nursing practice they have during that time. There are so many Nursing theory
that has been formulated with different definition to each and every concepts of
nursing care. Each with distinguishing characteristics as a theory, but all sharing
one goal but to develop a research-based practices for nurses.
Now we are about to discuss why one theory is better than the other, that
Faye Abdellah’s 21 Nursing Problems Theory is Better than Virginia Henderson’s
Nursing Need Theory.

Reasons:
1. As to Virginia Henderson her Major Concepts only Individual and Nursing
are explicitly defined. absence of a conceptual diagram, interconnections
between Henderson’s principles’ concepts and subconcepts are not
delineated. While Faye Abdellah’s theory, Health is also not well-defined
but other concept and subconcepts are well-developed, inherently logical
and delineates interrelation of the concepts of health, nursing problems,
and problem-solving.
2. Henderson was Born 37 years earlier than Abdellah. Although Henderson
Need Theory is the basis of Abdellah’s theory, with today’s time, there may
be added needs that humans are entitled to be provided with by nurses. 21
nursing problem theory is more adaptive to the Current Era today, as it is
more comprehensive, and enhanced the standard practice of nursing thru
Nursing research.
3. Usefulness to the Current Era, Health Needs and Problems of people
constantly changes thru times, as well as nursing practices must not be left
behind. Problem-Solving method, Comprehensive Nursing care, and
Nursing process (ADPIE) are all stated in Abdellah’s Theory, and till now are
 adapted by todays Nurses and being used to current Hospital and
Community setting.

Conclusion:
Both are Highly Decorated theorist in terms of Educational attainment,
Works, and Award, it is really hard to conclude which of which is the better one.
Faye Abdellah (Living Legend) and Virginia Henderson (The Nightingale of
Modern Nursing). As how Maslow’ theory gave birth to Henderson’s work, need
theory gave existence to 21 problems theory, with the incorporation of Research
and scientific based practice. They almost have a mother and child relationship.
Both theories view the practice of nursing as a problem-solving activity that
revolves around the patient’s needs, or formulating the problem based on the
patient’s needs. Both contribution to nursing can’t be compared because they are
in different eras where knowledge, resources and technology are different. the
reasons stated are based on our group deliberation for the purpose of learning
only.
