Answer:
First, we have the dimension of brick is given as below:

9 ×4.5 ×3
Now considering mortar the size of brick work is given below:
9 ×4.5 ×3 (6.5 in^3 mortar

Using the formula of volume to calculate the volume in cm:

Volume of brick =20 ×10 ×10
3
Volume of brick =2000 c m
To convert this into meters:
2000
Volume of brick = 6
10
3
Volume of brick =0.002 m
Using following formula of volume to calculate the volume in inches:
Volume of brick =9 ×4.5× 3 + 6.
3
Volume of brick =128i n
To convert this into feet:
128
Volume=
1728
3
Volume=0.0741 f t
Calculating amount of bricks per single cubic meter can be done by following equation:
Volume
Quantity of Bricks=
Volume of Single Brick
Putting values from, we get:
1
Quantity of Bricks=
0.002
Quantity of Bricks=500

Calculating amount of bricks per single cubic feet can be done by following equation.
Volume
Quantity of Bricks=
Volume of Single Brick
1
Quantity of Bricks=
0.0741
Quantity of Bricks=13.5

Hence, we get our desired value.

Question No 2: Determine the number of bricks, corrugated masonry ties, and mortar
needed to face a wall 50 feet long by 10 feet high. The brick is 2 1/2 inches high by 3 1/2
inches wide by 11 1/2 inches long. Allow for a 1/2-inch mortar joint. The spacing between
the ties is to be 18 inches measured vertically and 36 inches measured horizontally.
Historically, 10.2 cubic feet of mortar is required per 100 square feet of brick.

Answer:

Given:
Length of wall = 50 ft
Height of wall = 10 ft
Height (depth) of brick is = 2 ½ inches
Width of brick is = 3 ½ inches
Length of bricks is = 11 ½ inches
Mortar joint is = ½ inches
Spacing of ties (vertically) = 18 inches
Spacing of ties (Horizontally) = 36 inches
10.2 cubic ft of mortar is required for per 100 square ft of bricks = 10.2 ft 3 / 100 ft2

Solution:
First, we calculate the volume of single brick as given below;
Volume of brick =l× w × d

Putting values in above formula;

Volume of brick =2.5 ' ' ×3.5 ' ' ×11.5' '
''
Volume of brick =100.625
Area of wall is calculated using height and length of wall as;
Areaof wall=Length × Height

Putting values in above us get;

2
Areaof wall=500 f t
Now, we calculate the rows for bricks as given by following formula:
Wall Height
Number of Rows=
Single Brick height +mortar
Putting values in above formula, we get:
10 ft
Number of Rows=
( 2.5+0.5 )
10× 12
Number of Rows=
( 2.5+0.5 )
Number of Rows=40 rows

Now, we calculate the column for bricks by following formula we get;

Wall Lenght
Number of Columns=
Single brick lenght+ Mortar
Putting values in above formula, we get:
50 ft
Number of columns=
( 11.5+ 0.5 )
50 ×12
Number of columns=
( 11.5+ 0.5 )
Number of columns=50 columns

Now to calculate the total number of bricks (blocks) we use;

Total Bricks=rows× columns

Putting values in above formula, we get:

Total Bricks=50× 40
Total Bricks=2000 bricks

Along the wall, the ties are arranged in rows and columns. Along the wall, a column will appear every three
feet. Seven rows of ties will make up the columns, which are spaced 1 foot, 6 feet, 3 feet, 4 feet, 6 feet, 7
feet, 9 feet, and 9 feet 9 inches above the wall's base. Since the wall's base will rest on a footing,
foundation, or steel lintel, a tie is not required there.
We calculate the number of horizontal ties as follows;
Heigth ofwall
Number Row ties=
Horizontal Spacing
Putting values in above formula, we get:
10
Number Row ties=
1.5
Number Row ties=6.66∨7 rows

We calculate the number of vertical ties as follows;

Heigth ofwall
Number columns ties=
Horizontal Spacing
Putting values in above formula, we get:
50
Number columns ties= +1
3
Number columns ties=18 columns
Total Ties=18 ×7
Total Ties=126

Now, we calculate the volume of mortar needed as by using the following formula we get;
3
ft
Volume of mortar =10.2 2
×500
100 f t
3
Volume of mortar =51 f t
Also,
3
1 cy=27 f t
Now,
51
Volume of mortar =
27
Volume of mortar =1.888 cy

Question No 3: Determine the volume of concrete in cubic yards and the lineal feet of
forms needed to complete the footings shown in Figures below. Include 8% waste in the
calculated volume of concrete.

Solution:
We need to calculate the volume of concrete required for this
The base thickness of footing is given as,
Thickness of footing=2.5 ft

The other parameter is given as,

Parameter=22× 2+ 24 ×2+11+ 12
Parameter=115 ft

Volume can be found using following:

(
Volume=( 115 ×1 ×2.5 ) + 115 ×8 ×
8
12 )
Volume=900 cft

Adding the 8% of waste we get

Volume=(1+ 0.08)(900)
3
Volume=972 f t
972
Volume=
27
3
Volume=36 y d
Now to find the lineal feet at 1 ft we get
Lineal Feet of height =2× 115
Lineal Feet of height =230 ft

Now to find the lineal feet at height 1.5 ft we get;

Lineal feet of height 8 ft=2 ×115
Lineal feet of height 8 ft=230 ft

total lineal feet become,

Total Lineal Feet =230+230 ft
Total Lineal Feet =460 ft

Question 04: Determine the volume of concrete in cubic yards, and the rebar needed to
complete 10 of the columns shown in Figure below. Provide 2 inches of cover for the
rebar in the columns. The ties begin 3 inches from the bottom of the column and end 3
inches from the top of the column. Include 5% waste in the calculated volume of
concrete.
Answer:
2
πd 2
Areaof column= =1.4 f t
4
Total number ofcolumns=10
Depth of column=8 '
Diameter =16
Depth of foundation=1 '
Length of foundation=3' 2

We need to calculate the following;

Volume=?
Number of Rebar=?

Using the following formula to calculate volume for 10 columns, we have:

Volume=10 ×8 ×1.4
3
Volume=112 f t
Calculating the volume for 10 foundations, we have:
2
Volume=10 ×1 × ( 3.167 )
3
Volume=100.3 f t
Now, the total volume of concrete with 5% wastage is given by,
Volume=1.05 × ( 112+100.3 )
3
Volume=222.915 f t
Converting this into cubic yard,
222.915
Volume=
27
3
Volume=8.256 y d
Now, Calculating the rebars quantity as,
#6:
The #6 re-bar cutting length is given as:

8− ( 124 )=7.667 '

Hence total number of bars are
Number of bars=8

Total length for 10 columns is given as:

7.67 × 8× 10=613.6 '

#5:
The #5 re-bar cutting length is given as:
10+16+13
=3.25 '
12
Hence total number of bars are
Number of bars=8

Total length for 10 columns is given as:

'
3.25 ×8 × 10=260
#4:
The #4 re-bar cutting length is given as:
'
2.83
Hence total number of bars are
Number of bars=8

Total length for 10 columns is given as:

'
8 ×2.83=226.4
#3:
The #3 re-bar cutting length is given as:

2π ( 12 )=3.14 '
Hence total number of bars are
Number of bars=15

Total length for 10 columns is given as:

3.14 × 15× 10=471'
