Importance of Human Resource Management

We've gone over the basics of HRM and how it may help an organization achieve its objectives. In
this session, we'll look at why companies need an HRM strategy and the business drivers that make
it so important for the company's success.

Firms must continually innovate and remain "ahead of the curve" in terms of business practices and
strategies in order to flourish in the unpredictable and volatile commercial climate. HRM is a vital
instrument for management to assure success as a result of this desire to be at the front of the pack.

The Evolving Business Paradigm

The nature of businesses in today's business world is one of the reasons why they pay so much
attention to their employees. Given the increasing shift toward a service-based economy, service
companies must retain their staff motivated and productive. Even in manufacturing and traditional
industries, the necessity to stay competitive has necessitated the implementation of resource-
efficient solutions. This new corporate landscape has resulted from a paradigm shift in how
enterprises and firms regard their personnel as more than just resources, adopting a "people first"
strategy instead.

Strategic Management and HRM

It is necessary to link organizational goals with HR strategy to ensure that people policies align with
management objectives. As a result, the HR function may no longer be considered an afterthought
but rather a critical component in assuring corporate success.

Strategic management's goals are to give the organization a sense of direction and a sense of
purpose. HRM practices are now treated as seriously as marketing and production operations in
many businesses, and the days of the HR manager being preoccupied with administrative chores are
long gone.

Importance of HRM for Organizational Success

HRM must be viewed through the lens of the organization's broader strategic goals rather than as a
stand-alone activity that takes a unit-based or micro approach. The purpose here is to take a
comprehensive approach to HRM, ensuring that there are no piecemeal tactics and that HRM policy
is properly integrated with company goals. For example, suppose employees' training needs are
simply fulfilled with haphazard training on a variety of topics. In that case, the company will suffer
not just from the time spent in training but also from a lack of direction. As a result, organizations
that take their HRM rules seriously will ensure that training is focused and current.

To summarize, HRM must be integrated into the overall strategy in order to ensure effective use of
people and deliver greater ROI (Return on Investment) to businesses for every rupee or dollar spent
on them. Unless HRM is organized in this way, businesses risk losing money by not fully employing
their employees. And this does not bode well for the organization's success.
