A JOURNEY THROUGH PRESBYTERIAN BOYS’ SECONDARY SCHOOL:
CHALLENGES, TRIUMPHS AND BEYOND
Life as a student in Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) was a transformative experience that shaped my character, values and aspirations. Throughout this journey, I encountered quite a number of challenges and celebrated moments of victory. As a graduate reflecting on my time at the school, I am grateful for the valuable lessons learned and the person I have become. The demanding academic curriculum at the school pushed me to my limits, requiring impeccable time management skills. Balancing assignments, projects and extracurricular activities was often overwhelming. Through this, I learned the importance of prioritization and effective time utilization skills that continue to serve me well in my post-graduate life. The transition for a more comfortable life at home to boarding house life was a significant adjustment. Being away from family, I had learned to navigate communal living and cultivate a sense of independence. This experience taught me resilience, adaptability and the value of building strong supportive relationships with peers. Being part of the student leadership team presented unique challenges. Balancing academic responsibilities with leadership roles required unprecedented organization skills. Additionally, restoring harmony between students taught me diplomacy and effective communication skills that I now apply when dealing with my younger siblings. Above all, it was a wonderful experience and one of the most enriching aspects of my time at PRESEC was the deep sense of togetherness fostered among students. The bonds formed during late-night study sessions and shared experiences are treasures I hold dear. These relationships taught me the enduring value of genuine connections and the power of a supportive community. To add, engaging in extracurricular activities, whether in sports, clubs or indoor games provided a platform for personal growth and self-discovery. I learnt how to play chess, checkers and so many other games for my own development. Overcoming challenges, failing, learning from my failure and so on in these pursuits taught me discipline and the importance of pursuing one’s passions outside of academics. As a graduate, I carry with me the invaluable lessons learned at the school. The academic diligence, time management skills and leadership experience have equipped me to excel in my chosen field. The friendships forged, and cultural and religious exposure have instilled in me a sense of empathy and understanding that I apply in my interactions with my family and peers. To conclude, my journey as a student at Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School was marked by challenges that shaped my character, and moments of triumph that enriched my experience. The lessons learned from time management to cultural appreciation continue to guide me in my post-graduate life. I am grateful for the transformative impact of my former school, Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, and look forward to applying these lessons in my pursuit of a purposeful and fulfilling future
