Noli Me Tangere and its Recognition

Noli Me Tangere was praised by writers all over the world because it was the first literary work
in Asia that combated colonization of the Philippines and it became widespread of how great the
story was. The characters in Noli Me Tangere were depicted in the following. Simon was
portrayed as a selfish man, Maria Clara as a Filipino who is struggling for freedom, and Donya
Victorina as a human manifestation of Spanish Colonialism. Despite all the controversy, it was
still well-praised by audiences alike, especially the accurate depiction of Filipino life around that
time. Noli Me Tangere is a Latin name based on the word given by Jesus to Mary which was
“Touch Me Not”. Aside from the praises from Noli Me Tangere, Rizal’s work as a doctor was
also mentioned and compared to the cancer from the colonizers that surrounded the Philippines
at that time. I think overall, the way Noli Me Tangere impacted the future Filipinos gave a good
sensibility that Filipinos are truly strive for what they are fighting.
