ABSTRACT

Concrete has a wide range of mechanical and durability properties that can be
used to meet a structure design requirements. The researchers' goal is to determine
whether the cement mixture with rice husk as an additive can increase the durability of
the concrete, the chosen topic will be proven in this study. Concrete's durability is
described as its capacity to withstand weathering, chemical attack and surface abrasion to
retaining its desirable engineering qualities. It is life time process until the structure gets
failed or collapsed. There are 4 formulations of block in the study. Each block has been
tested with durability and fire resistant test. In terms of durability test, Block 2 has a
lesser mean which means more durable than the other formulation including the common
block. However, on fire resistant the lesser the rice husk added, the higher it resist fire.
The data gathered was used in Kruskal Wallis Test and Mean value. The result shows
0.072 which was greater than 0.05 of p-value. Thus, the treatment shows that there is no
significant difference of the blocks with or without rice husk. The researchers failed to
reject the null hypothesis.

ABSTRACT

Pest control has been one of the major concerns that every farmer adresses to have
a good yield in every palnting season. Synthetic molluscicides are use to control
Pomacea Canalaculata, however these molluscicides have a negative impact on the
environment. In this study, the potential use of Mimosa Pudica (makahiya plant). as
natural control agent against Pomacea Canalaculata was evaluated. Mimosa Pudica
plants were extracted and divided into five different concentrations the 0.1g/L, 0.2g/L,
0.3g/L, 0.4g/L, 0.5g/. Each treatment had 20 snails, and each experiment was repeated
three times. Two set-ups were made: Experimental (0.1g/L, 0.2g/L, 0.3g/L, 0.4g/L, 0.5g/)
and Control (0g/L). However, statistical analysis showed that concentrations 0g/L and
0.1g/L had a p-value of 0.337 and 0.110 indicationg that there is no significant difference
from expected mortality rate between these concentrations as well as these suggest that
there is no effect of the Mimosa Pudica extract at least concentration levels. And in the
concentration of 0.2g/L, 0.3g/L and 0.4g/L had a p-value of significantly higher than the
expected mortality rate indicating that there is a significant effect in the snails. At the
highest concentration the z-value and p-value cannot be calculated using this formula, as
there is no variation of the data. Mimosa Pudica extracts possesses molluscicidal activity
against Pomacea Canalaculata. The higher the concentration of the solution leads to
higher snails mortality.
