The five days of

Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, is a very popular holiday


in India. People celebrate it for five days! Do you know what
people do during Diwali? Let’s find out!

On Day 1 of the festival, people clean their homes and buy new
pots and pans. The next day, they decorate their homes with
lamps and colourful Rangoli patterns. On Day 3 of Diwali, people
wear their new clothes and watch the fireworks! It sounds like a
lot of fun! Then, on Day 4, families eat delicious food and sweets
together. Yum! Finally, on the last day of Diwali, brothers and
sisters give presents to each other.

in India. Diwali, or the festival of lights, lasts for five days in October
or November. It is also the Hindu New Year. People decorate their
homes with lights, candles and lamps or diyas. They clean their
homes and wear new clothes, too! They make beautiful Rangoli
patterns near the door to welcome visitors. Families get together
and give each other popular sweets like barfi and presents.
They eat a big meal and watch fireworks. It’s a very
special time for the people of India!
