1.9 Setting up

It is absolutely imperative that the foundation is even and suitably strong to

withstand the total weight of the machine when in a filled condition.

2 TECHNICAL INFORMATION

2.1 General

The machine is only to be used for the processing of coolant lubricants!

Mediums used for cooling and/or lubricating in mechanical cutting

processes must, depending on the application, be cleaned to a
certain fineness and held at a specific temperature in order to ensure
an exact processing of the work piece (for example, the surface
finish, the dimensional exactness).

As a rule, the cooling lubricants are transported from the processing

machine to central collecting points and from there to a coolant
conditioning plant. These filter installations serve to prepare the
medium applied for the processing, i.e. to separate the solid matter
from the cooling lucricant as well as, where necessary, to regulate
the temperature and remove air occlusions.

2 TECHNICAL INFORMATION

The machine is only intended for the filtration of cooling lubricants.

2.1 General

The bmf has systematically developed and optimized the long-proven and well-
tried filter installations. The machine works on the principle of gravitational force.
Due to the compact design, only little space is required and a high throughput is
possible. Depending on the relevant requirements, both full-flow and bypass
filtration are possible.

2-9
Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH

2.2 Description of function

The contaminated cooling lubricant is admitted via the input tube into the machine.
The cooling lubricant is evenly distributed over the width of the filter. The emulsion
penetrates the filter mat and is collected in the clean tank. The retained dirt
particles accumulate on the filter mat and form a "filter cake". This filter cake
serves as an additional filter layer and thus improves the filtration. As the layer of
particle deposits on the filter mat grows, the level of the cooling lubricant in the
filter chamber rises. When the pre-set maximum level is reached, the driving motor
switches on and conveys new filterial material , without the filtration bing
interrupted. The level sinks and the filter transport is stopped. These processes
are repeated automatically, thus acheiving an optimum use of the filter paper. The
used filter mat is collected together with the filter cake in a dirt pan on the opposite
side of the paper roll. The filter paper roll is monitored by a limit switch (paper
shortage switch). If no filter cake forms on the filter tissue as a result of the
machining as the chips arising are too coarse (example: aluminium machining),
the filter must be operated automatically for an adjustable time. Thereby, the
automatic cycle should be approx. one complete trough cycle (TPF 300/610, TPF
350/710 = approx. 8 seconds, TPF 600/1010 = approx. 12 seconds.

Recommended basic setting: The filter tissue transport activation conforms with
supply pump running time (additive time measurement), basic setting: 1 hour This
means an automatic filter tissue with approx. one troughs cycle occurs if the
machine does not advance itself or with the pushbutton within 1 hour running time
of the supply pump (pause times not included).

The interval clocking (additive time measurement) must be adapted to the type of
machine for optimal operation of the machine.

> Increase light metal chip proportion -> reduce clock interval!

3.3 Setting the paper shortage switch

A switch with an offset polyamide rod is to be found in the area below the paper
roll which gives the signal that there is a paper shortage. This switch is pre-set for
an optimum operation.

On replacing the switch, the following procedure must be carefully followed:

the operating rod must be set in such a way that it is pointing to the central point of
the carrier tube and is at a distance of approximately

10mm from the carrier roll.

The locking screw in the centre of the screw has to be loosened to adjust the
operating rod.

3.5 Paper change

If the filter is fitted with a scanner to recognise the end of the paper, the filter
switches off as soon as the paper no longer dampens the scanner. If the filter is
only fitted with a paper-shortage switch, the paper must be cut off in the tread-in
area when the paper-shortage switch responds in order to introduce a new paper
mat.

Picture 11

The paper mat should be changed in accordance with the following procedure:

After removing the used roll, a new paper roll (picture 12) should be inserted into
the filter so that it overlaps the rest of the previous paper.
