Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
In order to maintain the efficiency and the usable life of cooling lubricants, it is
necessary that they are applied, treated and cared for in the correct manner. It is
absolutely imperative to observe the physical properties and the condition of the
cooling lubricant during the application. It is of particular importance to control the
specified filling quantity.
The legal specifications, fire prevention measures and regulations for the
mixing and application of cooling lubricants are to be found in the product
information and safety data sheets.

During the filling process of the machine, no signal for cooling lubricant demand
may be made from the processing machine.
The cooling lubricant is filled through the maintenance aperture (picture2). The
The degree of purity of the cooling lubricant must be at least 40µm.
The machine is to be filled up to the maximum filling level.
Depending on the design of the level switch, the maximum filling level is to be
seen either by a marking or by the control unit of the processing machine.

Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
· All safety and danger warnings on the machine must be kept in a legible
condition!
· The personnel must tie back long hair and may not wear baggy clothes or
jewellery, including rings, in order to eliminate the danger of injury by getting
caught up on machine parts.
· The danger areas of the machine, i.e. areas where parts are moving, must be
guarded and the guards may not be removed during operation.
· On noticing any change in the machine or its operation which could affect the
safety, the machine should be turned off straight away and the case reported
to a person responsible. The machine should then be checked for at least the
following 2 days for any recognisable damage or defects.
· Spare parts must conform with the technical requirements set down by the
manufacturer. This is guaranteed in the case of original spare parts.
1-3
Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
· Clearly establish the responsibility of the person in charge of the machine and
give him the authority to issue warnings against adverse safety behaviour of
third persons
· The operater has to provide for sufficient illumination, in particular in the areas
where mantenance requires contact. Dangerous shadowy areas and screens
which reduce the visibility should be avoided.
· Personnel who are still being schooled, trained and instructed as well as
personnel in a general apprenticeship are only allowed to work at the machine
under continuous supervision of another experienced person.
1.5.1 General
1.5.2 Special work in connection with the use of the machine and maintenance
· All operators must be informed on such special work and maintenance work
prior to commencement! Those in charge of supervision must be named!
· A wide area around the location of the maintenance work should, if necessary,
be guarded.

Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
· The parts should then be tested that they are free of current, earthed, short-
circuited and neighbouring parts under current should be insulated.
· When work has to be carried out on parts under current, the relevant
stipulations are to be respected.
· The penetration of dirt (e.g. chips, water, dust) must be prevented at all costs.
In the case of excessive dirt and dust , the cabinet and the machine must be
covered up.

· When handling oils, greases and other chemical substances, attention must be
paid to the appropriate safety regulations! ( For example, the safety data

protective equipment!

- There is danger of accident through the transport base or the case
falling or tipping over.
- As the centre of gravity of the machine is very high, avoid tipping it
strongly when lifting it with the forklift.
- Protect the machine, control, electrical equipment and fittings as well
as the connection plugs from moisture!

2 TECHNICAL INFORMATION
2.1 General
The bmf has systematically developed and optimized the long-proven and well-
tried filter installations. The machine works on the principle of gravitational force.
Due to the compact design, only little space is required and a high throughput is
possible. Depending on the relevant requirements, both full-flow and bypass
filtration are possible.
2-9
Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
The contaminated cooling lubricant is admitted via the input tube into the machine.
The cooling lubricant is evenly distributed over the width of the filter. The emulsion
penetrates the filter mat and is collected in the clean tank. The retained dirt
particles accumulate on the filter mat and form a "filter cake". This filter cake
serves as an additional filter layer and thus improves the filtration. As the layer of
particle deposits on the filter mat grows, the level of the cooling lubricant in the
filter chamber rises. When the pre-set maximum level is reached, the driving motor
switches on and conveys new filterial material , without the filtration bing
interrupted. The level sinks and the filter transport is stopped. These processes
are repeated automatically, thus acheiving an optimum use of the filter paper. The
used filter mat is collected together with the filter cake in a dirt pan on the opposite
side of the paper roll. The filter paper roll is monitored by a limit switch (paper
shortage switch). If no filter cake forms on the filter tissue as a result of the
machining as the chips arising are too coarse (example: aluminium machining),
the filter must be operated automatically for an adjustable time. Thereby, the
automatic cycle should be approx. one complete trough cycle (TPF 300/610, TPF
350/710 = approx. 8 seconds, TPF 600/1010 = approx. 12 seconds.
Recommended basic setting: The filter tissue transport activation conforms with
supply pump running time (additive time measurement), basic setting: 1 hour This
means an automatic filter tissue with approx. one troughs cycle occurs if the
machine does not advance itself or with the pushbutton within 1 hour running time
of the supply pump (pause times not included).
The interval clocking (additive time measurement) must be adapted to the type of
machine for optimal operation of the machine.
> Increase light metal chip proportion -> reduce clock interval!

3 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The correct electrical connections (for example the correct connection of the motor
with regard to the direction of rotation) to the power supply must be checked.
The following instrcutions are only applicable if the filters are fitted with an IFM
level switch. There is a level switch in the vicinity of the inlet box which controls the
automatic paper mat feed. The switch is pre-set by bmf the for an optimum
function of the filter (dimension A in accordance with the table from the lower
edge of the level switch to the upper edge of the filter, see diagram TPF,
point 2.1, picture 2). The level switch is adjusted via a pipe clamp with which the
switch is fastened to the inlet box. In order to change the the position of the
switching point, the pipe clamp is loosened and the switch moved.

scanner in the area where the paper is introduced (see picture 12)which gives the
signal to turn off the transport of the paper.

The switch is pre-set with approximately 180mm tracing distance. The tracing
distance is set by turning a potentiometer on the face of the scanner.

Bürener Maschinenfabrik GmbH
If the filter is fitted with a scanner to recognise the end of the paper, the filter
switches off as soon as the paper no longer dampens the scanner. If the filter is
only fitted with a paper-shortage switch, the paper must be cut off in the tread-in
area when the paper-shortage switch responds in order to introduce a new paper
mat.

The paper mat should be changed in accordance with the following procedure:
After removing the used roll, a new paper roll (picture 12) should be inserted into
the filter so that it overlaps the rest of the previous paper.
