A proposition is a Declarative statement that is either true or false, but not both.

Example:
1+1=2 T
2+2 =5 F
Barisal capital in bd. = F

 Not proposition
Example:
What time is it? Questions not a proposition.
Read This Carefully. Commands / Imperative Not a proposition.
Do your Homework. Not a proposition
X + 1 =2 not a proposition ( Not constant values / value is not defined )

 Propositional variables / statement variables

Example:
1) Today is Friday p = today if Friday.
2) it is raining q = it is raining.
The truth value of the propositional variable can be true or false.

 Compound proposition
.Compound proposition is a proposition formed by combining two or more
simple proposition.
. The logical operators that are used to form compound proposition is called
connectives.
 Logical Exercises
“q Whenever p” = q -> p
“q are p” = q -> p
“q is necessary for p” = q -> p
“q follows from p” = q -> p
“a sufficient condition for q is p” = q -> p
“q When p” = q -> p
“Maria will find a good job when she learns discrete mathematics”
“q Unless p” = q -> p
“maria will find a good job unless she does not learn discrete mathematic”
 Three Type Conditional Statement.
1) Converse, Inverse, Contrapositive.

Lecture 2
 Tautology and contradiction
Propositional Equivalences
 Ruls (1) – ( p -> q ) = (not p v q )

Lecture 3
