Clinical scenerio: A 21-year-old male patient has been overweight.

The patient has difficulty

with the activities of daily life. He is concerned about his overall health, and would like to
lose weight quickly. He needs to exercise, change his diet, or have surgery in order to lose
weight and return to a healthy life.

P (Population): obesity
I (Interversion): diet, exercise
C (Comparison): pharmacologic
O (Outcome): weight loss

Summary: As first-line therapy in overweight patients, multicomponent interventions,

including behavior modification strategies to increase physical activity level, reduce
inactivity, and improve eating behavior and diet quality, should be performed. The weight
loss diets to be applied should be compatible with the principles of adequate and balanced
nutrition. In addition, the recommended exercise program should be specific to the
individual, fun, applicable, and compatible with the daily life habits of the individual.
Pharmacologic treatment should only be used as a last resort if diet, exercise, and behavioral
strategies have been tried and evaluated
