ENN1504 ASSIGNMENT 2

REPORT ON AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE FEASIBILITY OF REPAIRING


DAMAGES AND RENOVATING THE COMMUNITY HALL

1. Terms of References

On 12 July 2021, Dr Dunge, the councilor requested an investigation into the feasibility
of repairing damages and renovating the community hall in the shortest time and least expense.
A recommendation is to be submitted to the councilor by 12 August 2021.

2. Procedures

The procedures followed in order to obtain the information contained in this report include:

2.1 The determination of how much damage has been done on the community hall and the
lacking areas of the community hall that requires repairing and renovation.
2.2 Established the possible total costs for the repairs and renovations, and made a budget.
2.3 Negotiated with potential workers on prices and the duration of repairing and renovating
the community hall.
2.4 Organized a working schedule and timeline of the whole process.

3. Findings

Based on the procedures listed above, the following was found:

3.1 Things needs attention include, broken lights and air conditioning, broken windows,
damaged floor, broken chairs, plumbing and painting.
3.2 The overall cost for repairing and renovation the community hall is R10 000, and the
management need to budget at least R12 000.
3.3 Local people skilled in plumbing and other related repairing were willing to help repair
the damages and renovate the hall with little to zero compensation.
3.4 The allocated workers showed different availability but an agreement of taking shifts in
working was reached.
4. Conclusions

From findings we can conclude:

4.1 Several things were damaged and we need to buy material such as windows, lights, paint
and plumbing pipes which does not take too much time to install.
4.2 The overall costs will not go over the budget because local people will contribute their
skills and time in renovating and repairing the hall.
4.3 The allocated workers have other commitments too so they cannot be available every
day of the week but they can take turns each coming 3 times a week. The chairperson
will be present on site every day to supervise.
4.4 It can be concluded that the community hall has sufficient budget to make the needed
repairs and renovations. The task of repairing is feasible.

5. Recommendations

It is recommended that:

5.1 The community hall committee comes up with new policies for visitors.
5.2 The community is charged for using the hall to help cover the costs of maintaining the
hall and future repairing of unforeseeable circumstances like storms.
