Interpret and Navigate!

If you answered with “the protagonist rescued the princess only to find out that
she can fend off herself and survive without a knight and shining armor in her life and as they
journey back to the kingdom to take the swamp back and for the “not damsel in distress” to
marry the villain but eventually, they fall in love with each other only to find out that the “not
damsel in distress” is cursed to be a beautiful woman by day and turn back to a monster by
night but they still lived happily ever after.” Congratulations! You just recreated the story of
Shrek!
Shrek! is one of the wonderful examples of movie adaptation. Instead of a dashing,
handsome young prince, we have a menacing ogre who is short-tempered and very self-
centered. We also got a strong and bipolar damsel instead of a frail, naïve and innocent damsel
in distress and we have the Lord Farquaad which is a short individual who is insecure and weak
which is not a common characteristic for a movie villain.

What are the common plots and stories we have today in our stories, social media, K-Drama,
and other streaming platforms?
In today’s generation of film, many genres are booming and each of these genres gives
different emotions to its viewers. One of the most common plots in stories shown and being
popular in social media are K-Dramas and Hollywood movies where the plot has such
interesting twists but still many of the famous movies of today still have the old-considered
cliche plots. For instance, the common plots are from rags to riches, the third party, average girl
meets rich guy, time travel back in time, reincarnation, travel to fantasy worlds, switched at
birth, childhood sweethearts who are separated before they grow up and meet again, and some
of the ideas involve spy plots with secret identities. There are some of the movies made today
where the villains of old classic movies are being the protagonists in which shown the backstory
is shown from how they became the villain or antagonists from old stories, some of these
movies made the viewer feel empathy towards the character quoting ‘from bad to mistreated
and unheard.’

What are the common societal problems that the Philippines or the world is facing today?
Inherent issues in a society's structure cause social problems, which reflect and reinforce
inequities based on socioeconomic class, race, gender, and other factors. Successful solutions to
social problems will necessitate a significant shift in society's structure. The common societal
problems that the Philippines and other countries are facing today are poverty, discrimination,
drugs, crime, child abuse, forced labor, overpopulation, civil rights, sexual orientation, lack of
education, gender inequality, and unemployment. This country’s most common issue is poverty.
Filipinos are struggling to make ends meet under a circumstance, and many are sinking into
extreme poverty. There are numerous repercussions of poverty that make it difficult for
individuals to live in such conditions. A social problem is one that impacts a large number of
people in a society. It is a combination of current-day societal issues that many individuals are
working to resolve. It is frequently the result of circumstances beyond an individual's control.
