God had chosen a family from which the kings of the Jews would come.
Jesus the Messiah would come from the family of David. Being the King
of the Jews, the Messiah would have to be from the family of David and
would also have to fulfill many things written before about him by the
prophets.
Matthew 1:18-25 NIV 18This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother
Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she
was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband
was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in
mind to divorce her quietly. 20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord
appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to
take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy
Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,
because he will save his people from their sins." 22All this took place to fulfill what
the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will be with child and will give
birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" --which means, "God with us."
24
When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him
and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he had no union with her until she gave
birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
Luke 2: 21-22 ISV
21 After
eight days had passed, the infant was circumcised and named Jesus,
the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. 2 When the
time came for their purification according to the Law of Moses, Joseph and Mary
took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord (in the Temple).

The titles MESSIAH and CHRIST means “ANOINTED.”

Messiah is a Hebrew word for Anointed.
Christ is a Greek word for Anointed.
Jesus, the long-awaited Messiah (the anointed one) had come. He was
born in Bethlehem just before the reign of King Herod the Great of
Palestine ended in 4B.C. At the time Caesar Augustus was the ruler of
the Roman Empire.
The birth of Jesus was the fulfillment of the prophecy in Micah 5:2; 1
Samuel 16:1, 13; Jeremiah 33:14-16; Isaiah 9:2-3, among other texts.
The Gospels, Matthew and Mark, recount the genealogy of Jesus that
He had come from the line of David.
Micah 5:2 The Lord says, “Bethlehem Ephrathah, you
are one of the smallest towns in Judah, but out of you
I will bring a ruler for Israel, whose family line goes
back to ancient times.”
1 Samuel 16:1 The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will
you go on grieving over Saul? I have rejected him as king
of Israel. But now get some olive oil and go to Bethlehem,
to a man named Jesse, because I have chosen one of
his sons to be king.”
Jeremiah 33:14-16 The Lord said, “The time is coming
when I will fulfill the promise that I made to the people of
Israel and Judah. At the time I will choose a king, a
righteous descendant of David. That king will do what
is right and just throughout the land. The people of
Judah and Jerusalem will be rescued and will live in
safety. The city will be called ‘The Lord our Salvation.’”
Isaiah 9:2-3 The people who walked in darkness have
seen a great light. They lived in a land of shadows, but
now light is shining on them. You have given them
great joy Lord; you have made them happy. They
rejoice in what you have done, as people rejoice when
they harvest grain or when they divide captured wealth.
The birth of Jesus in Bethlehem known as the
City of David was a fulfillment of the prophecy
in Isaiah 9:2-3
Bethlehem is about 6 kilometers south of
Jerusalem.
Bethlehem means “house of bread.”
Jesus kept increasing in wisdom and stature and
in favor with God and men (Luke 2:52). Jesus
grew up in Nazareth, a town in Galilee with four
brothers and some sisters, in the household of
Mary and Joseph, the carpenter.
