Activity 5.1. Managing Time, Space and Learning Resources

Observe and use the observation sheet provided for you to document your observation.

1. As you observe the class, look into the characteristics of the learners. Note their age.

In my observation, the class was consists of 15-16 age range. Some students are very
participative in class discussions and some are bored. Some students are very talkative and
energetic, while some are behave and silent.

2. How many boys are there? How many Girls?

There are 19 boys and 10 girls in the class.

3. Focus on their behavior. Are they already able to manage their own behavior?
Their behavior was manageable but sometimes they need reminders about their behavior.

4. Can the learners already work independently?

Yes, since they are already grown-ups, they tend to manage in working independently on the tasks
that the teacher assigns to them.

5. Describe their span of attention?

Since the students are physically active learners, during class discussions, some of them can
maintain their focus and attention towards the lesson while others got easily distracted, sleepy
and bored.

Analyze and answer these questions on observed classroom management practices. It is also good to ask
the teacher for additional information, so you can validate your observations. Write your notes below.

1. Are there areas in the classroom for specific purposes (storage of teaching aids, books, students’
belongings, supplies, etc)? Describe these areas. Will it make a difference if these areas for specific
purposes are not present?

Yes, there are lockers and table available in the classroom. The table is intended for the teacher’s usage
every class and was placed in the center front of the classroom. The lockers are where students can put
and secure their belongings it is located outside the classroom. The learners’ chairs was placed in the
center part of the classroom.

2. Are there rules and procedures posted in the classroom or netiquettes presented? List them down. Do
these rules reinforce positive behavior?
There are several rules being implemented in the classroom but not being displayed or posted.
 No one should be late in class
 Maintain your areas clean and organized
 No talking while teacher is talking in front.
 Be mindful of your belongings
 Be respectful with others.
These rules are being implemented in the classroom to enable student to become responsible and
mindful of their behaviors and actions inside the classroom.

3. Did the students participate in making the classroom rules? If the resource teacher is available, ask him or
her to describe the process. What’s the effect of student’s participation in rule-making of student’s
behavior?
No, the teacher was the one who made the classroom rules.

4. What are the daily before, during and after routines done by the resource teacher during the teaching
learning-process? How are they done?
Every day, the teacher starts the class by a prayer and checking of attendance. He will let the students
settle down and clean their areas. During the lesson proper, the teacher lets the students recap or review
their previous topic. Then he will continue or introduce the next topic. After the discussion of the theory,
he will now give students a task or an activity related to the topic. After the class, he will now give them
assignments or remind them of the things to be done in the next meeting.

5. Observe the noise level in the classroom. How are these managed?
The noise level inside the classroom is manageable. If the class becomes very noisy or students are making
noise by chitchatting with their seatmates, the teacher calls their attention. Sometimes there is someone
assigned in listing the names of those who are noisy and let them clean the classroom after.

6. If a learner is not following instruction or off-task, what does the resource teacher do?
If the learner is not following instructions and not doing the task, the teacher calls his/her
attention and scold him/ her for not following the task. Sometimes, the teacher lets him/her to not follow
then make her realize the consequences of his/her actions.

7. What does the resource teacher do to reinforce positive behaviors?

The teacher gives positive feedbacks and comments if the learner performs well or got a
high scores in their exams, performances and outputs.

1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?

Teacher needs to enforce positive discipline to build a learning t the student. With that,
student/learners will be responsible enough with regards to their performances in school and as a
result, a positive outcome such as topping the class will pay-off the hardship of every learner.

1. How did the classroom organization and routines affect the learner’s behavior?
The learners became more responsible, attentive and disciplined with their actions and
behaviors. The routines inside the classroom made them became more comfortable and
confident each and every day. Classroom organization serves as a guide to students to know
their boundaries and limitations.
2. What should the teacher have in mind when he/she designs the classroom organization and
routines? Site some theories and principles
The teacher should consider the classroom inclusivity in designing his/her routines so
that students may feel that they belong. Also, the teacher should consider the suggestions of
the students for them to feel that their voices matter also. Teacher should impose the

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating the students? Why were they effective?
Giving positive reinforcement to students who perform well in class is an excellent
behavior strategy for regulating their conduct. As a result, the students will be inspired to
participate in class and will repeat their positive behaviors. Giving them encouraging remarks
such as "very good" or rewarding them is one of the primary reasons why pupils are driven.

1. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade level do you see
yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level and why?

If I were to structure my classroom in the future, I would start with the secondary level,
specifically the fourth year. I chose fourth year since they are about to graduate and I want to
teach them some morals and knowledge before they start college. I'll create certain routines
that I know will be beneficial to students, as well as processes that will undoubtedly organize the
classroom and make it more conducive to learning. I will create a desirable environment by
using a variety of educational resources and will establish a permissive and stimulating setting to
grab the attention of the learners to raise questions.

2. Make a list of the rules you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you choose these
rules?
My rules are as follows: students must wear their proper uniforms, observe proper
etiquette, speak kindly and respectfully to one another, take care of the classroom equipment,
late comers will not be tolerated, everyone must pay attention if someone is speaking at the
front, and so on. I chose these principles because they are not often observed and obeyed by
students anymore, therefore I want to bring them back and train them to be disciplined.

3. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

Yes, because it is one opportunity for students to share their thoughts or opinions on
the classroom rules. This is possible because the classroom is democratic and everyone is free to
share and speak up; nevertheless, students should be aware of their limits because professors
are still superior to them. It is up to the teacher whether he or she will involve his or her pupils
in setting the class rules or if the teacher will make the rules alone since the classroom must be
autocratic for him or her.
