TASK SHEET #1

MACRO-NUTRIENTS AND MICRO-NUTRIENTS

MACRO-NUTRIENTS
NUTRIENT DEFINITION EXAMPLE OF FOOD
1. Carbohydrates provide energy, store energy, build
macromolecules, and spare protein
and fat for other uses. Glucose energy
is stored as glycogen, with the
majority of it in the muscle and liver.

2. Protein Your body's tissues can be

repaired and built up using
protein. It triggers metabolic
processes, preserves fluid and pH
equilibrium, and supports a
robust immune system.
Additionally, it can serve as an
energy source and transport and
store nutrients. Protein is
essential for health.
3. Fats Your body needs dietary fats for
energy and to sustain healthy cell
function. They also aid in
maintaining body temperature
and organ protection. Your body
produces vital hormones and can
absorb some nutrients with the
aid of fats.

MICRO-NUTRIENTS
NUTRIENT DEFINITION EXAMPLE OF FOOD
1. Iron The body requires iron to create
the proteins myoglobin, which
oxygenates muscles, and
hemoglobin, which is found in
red blood cells and delivers
oxygen from the lungs to all
areas of the body.

2. Zinc It plays a crucial role in the

production of DNA, cell
proliferation, the synthesis of
proteins, the repair of damaged
tissue, and the maintenance of a
strong immune system. A
sufficient amount of zinc is
needed during periods of rapid
growth, such as childhood,
adolescence, and pregnancy, as it
aids in cell growth and
multiplication.
3. Manganese Manganese aids in the formation
of bones, connective tissue, blood
clotting components, and sex
hormones in the body.
Additionally, it contributes to the
metabolism of fats and
carbohydrates, calcium
absorption, and blood sugar
control. Additionally essential for
healthy nerve and brain function
