PROJECT GUGMA: Good and Undying Genuine Motivation Approach

towards Learners at Risk of Dropping Out

I. Context and Rationale

The Department of Education (DepEd) of the Philippines is dedicated to

providing quality education and ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to

complete their basic education. However, there is a persistent issue that

threatens the realization of this goal - learners at risk of dropping out. To address

this critical problem, this action research proposal outlines Project GUGMA,

which stands for "Genuinely and Undying Good Motivation Action."

With this, Balubal Elementary School Project GUGMA is an initiative to

support and motivate learners at risk of dropping out. This program aims to

provide genuine care and support to the learners by implementing various

activities that can help them develop the right mindset, necessary skills, and

knowledge to continue their education. Project GUGMA is an essential program

that can serve as a catalyst in addressing the dropout rate of learners. The

School continues to work together with stakeholders toward the empowerment of

learners by providing them with the necessary resources and support to achieve

their academic and life goals. In doing so, the school contributes to building a

more promising future for our country.

I. Context and Rationale

In the educational context of Balubal Elementary School, the prevalence of

learners at risk of dropping out of school and the suboptimal success rate of the

Balik-Aral program have been a pressing concern. The socioeconomic

challenges, personal issues, and academic difficulties faced by students often

lead to disengagement from the educational system. Recognizing the need for a

comprehensive intervention, "PROJECT GUGMA" was initiated by the

school. This action research aims to address these issues by providing genuine

and enduring motivation to learners at risk of dropping out and those considering

re-enrollment through the Balik-Aral program. The project is motivated by a

commitment to inclusivity, quality education, and the holistic development of all

learners.

This action research project, "PROJECT GUGMA," aims to generate valuable

insights, create effective strategies, and foster lasting motivation among learners

at risk of dropping out and those participating in the Balik-Aral program. By

addressing these challenges and implementing innovative interventions, we

aspire to contribute to the fulfillment of the DepEd's mission of providing inclusive,

equitable, and quality education for all.

II. Action Research Questions:

The action research will focus on the following key questions:

1. What factors contribute to learners being at risk of dropping out of school?

2. How can "PROJECT GUGMA" effectively motivate and support these learners

to remain in school?

3. Is there a significant difference before and after the implementation of Project

GUGMA?

III. Proposed Innovation, Intervention, and Strategy:

"PROJECT GUGMA" will introduce the following key innovations,

interventions, and strategies:

Personalized Mentoring and Counseling: A team of mentors and counselors

will provide one-on-one support to at-risk students, addressing their academic

and personal challenges.

Enhanced Balik-Aral Program (EBAP): The Balik-Aral program will be

redesigned to offer flexible scheduling, customized curricula, and additional

support services to make it more appealing and accessible.

Sa Sipag at Tiyaga ko Anak ko Makakatapos (STAM): Parental involvement,

guidance, and support play a crucial role in a child's educational journey. Through

a combination of hard work, a supportive environment, and active participation,

parents can significantly contribute to their child's academic success and

personal growth.

Oplan Walang Iwanan: In this holistic approach, the Home Visitation

Coordinator, barangay officials, teachers, and community volunteers should work

in collaboration. Their combined efforts should focus on the well-being and

development of community members. It's essential to establish clear

communication channels, maintain records of home visitation outcomes, and

continually assess and adapt the program based on the changing needs of the

community. The success of "Oplan Walang Iwanan" will depend on the

dedication, teamwork, and sustained commitment of all involved parties to create

a resilient and thriving community.

IV. Action Research Methods:

a. Participants:

The primary participants for this action research project will be selected

pupils of Balubal Elementary School who are identified as being at risk of

dropping out or re-enrolling through the Balik-Aral program. Additionally, the

research will involve teachers, school administrators, and parents to gather

diverse perspectives.

b. Data Gathering Methods:

Structured surveys will be administered to students, parents, teachers, and

community members to assess their perceptions, needs, and expectations

regarding the project. In-depth interviews will be conducted with selected at-risk

students and those participating in the Balik-Aral program to gain insights into

their motivations, challenges, and expectations. Focus group discussions will be

organized to facilitate open conversations and gather qualitative data from

various stakeholders. Existing academic records and performance data will be

analyzed to identify trends and patterns.

c. Data Analysis:

Quantitative and qualitative data collected from surveys, interviews, and

focus groups will be analyzed using appropriate statistical methods and

thematic analysis. Results will be presented using tables, and narrative

summaries to communicate findings effectively. To determine whether there is

a significant difference in the pupils' academic performance, a T-test will be

employed. This statistical test will be conducted at a significance level of 0.05,

and it will test the following hypothesis:
