Preparation of original salt solution


Prepared original salt solution by dissolving a pinch of salt in 10 to15mL of distilled water or
dil.HCl or conc.HCl, cold or hot. Label it original solution (O.S).

Confirmatory test for basic radical


a) Ammonium oxalate test
To a few drops of the
original solution added 2
to 3 drops of Ammonium Ca2+confirmed
oxalate solution. Add a White precipitate obtained
little ammonium hydroxide
to it and scratch the sides
b) Flame test
Prepared a paste of the salt
Brick red flame Ca2+confirmed
with Conc.HCl and
performed flame test.

Chemical Reaction :-

White ppt. Of calcium carbonate dissolves in hot dil.acetic acid.


CaCO3 + 2CH3COOH ---------> (CH3COO)2Ca +CO2 ↑ +H2O

Ammnium oxalate Test:

(CH3COO)2Ca +(NH4)2C2O4 -------->2CH3COONH4 +CaC2O4 ↓

Result:
The given simple salt is : Calcium Carbonate (CaCO3)
Acid radical: CO32-
Basic radical: Ca2+
