BACKGROUND ATTACKER :

The attack on the RIU Imperial Marhaba Hotel in Sousse,

Tunisia, on June 26, 2015, was carried out by Seifeddine
Rezgui. He was a 23-year-old Tunisian student who
perpetrated the attack by opening fire on tourists at the
beach and within the hotel premises. The attack resulted
in the tragic deaths of 38 people and left many others
injured.

Seifeddine Rezgui was known to have been radicalized

and had ties to extremist groups, particularly ISIS. He
had received training in Libya before returning to Tunisia
to carry out the attack. The attack was considered part of
a larger pattern of terrorism in the region and was aimed
at instilling fear and destabilizing the country's tourism
industry.

Tunisia had been grappling with the rise of extremist

ideologies and the challenges of radicalization, partly
due to social, economic, and political factors. The attack
highlighted the vulnerability of soft targets, such as
tourist destinations, to terrorist activities.

Since the attack, Tunisia has taken steps to enhance its

security measures and counterterrorism efforts, including
increased cooperation with international partners to
combat the threat posed by extremist groups. Keep in
mind that my information is based on events up until
September 2021, and there may have been further
developments since then.
