Course Objectives
-To expose the students to the fundamentals of structure and
properties of materials

Structure : Crystal, Atomic and microstructure

Properties : Mechanical, Physical, Magnetic, Electronics

Using theory (lecture+ tutorial), you are expected to get a full

understanding the correlation between structure with properties
of materials.
Nature and Properties of Materials

• Lectures: M, W 11 – 11:50 am
• Discussion: F 11- 11:50 am

• Discussion: Day/time/place will be decided by instructor

after discussion with the students in corresponding tutorial
section.

Extra Discussion hour with instructor: T, 5-6 PM

(prior email intimation required)
Credit Distribution
Mid Semester Exam: 30 %
End Semester Exam : 40 %
Tutorial +Quizzes : 20%
Attendance : 10%
Compulsory attendance in Tutorials:
Attend.> 90% =10; Attendance = 100%, bonus 5 marks,
Attendance >=95%, bonus 2 marks)
Few Important things

1. No proxy submission of assignments.

2. Attendance in tutorial mandatory.
3. There will be at least 4 quizzes for the course.
4. TAs will evaluate the assignments and quizzes.
Distribution of Assignments, Handouts and Other Information
All assignments, handouts and other relevant information will be distributed
through the INTRANET and/or hardcopies will be kept at selected photocopy
centres (such as, copypoint). The students must ensure a copy for themselves
through any of the methods.

Assignments
The assignments will be submitted during tutorials. There will be no PROXY
submissions. Let this be really clear. This means you can submit only your
assignment; donot carry them to submit for anyone else without explicit knowledge
of the tutor. If there is violation of this rule, it will be considered ethical misconduct
equivalent to cheating.

Plagiarism of assignments
You must not copy assignment of your colleagues. Plagiarism is considered unethical
and crime. If your assignment is found plagiarised, you will given -10.
