SIMPLIFIED ANALYSIS of TANK TOWER Motion
Under Seismic Shaking
Let’s consider an idealization model of a tank tower. It consists of one inextensional vacuum cylinder column with an
external diameter of 2,00m and a thickness of 30 cm This column is mode of reinforced concrete , the concrete class
is C25/30 ( Ecm = 31 GPa ). This tank has to resist to an horizontal earthquake excitation. For the dynamic model, we
could simplify the analysis by using a SDOF model with masses concentrated exclusively on the bottom or on the top
of the structure, and the stiffness linked exclusively to the bending of the column. So that we could consider a mass-
string system.
The earthqake motion could be described by the pseudo acceleration spectrum below.
