"Anne of Green Gables"

By Lucy M. Montgomery

The Power of Imagination Anne

"Anne of Green Gables," which was published in 1908. This novel tells the story of an
orphan named Anne Shirley who is accidentally sent to live on Prince Edward Island with her
middle-aged siblings. Anne became a beloved member of the community and brought joy and
adventure to the lives of those around her, despite some of her conflicts.
In the novel, it is depicted that Anne lives using her imagination to deal with difficult
situations such as being teased by her classmates or being disappointed. Anne would use her
imagination to imagine the perfect world for herself, which made her feel less alone and more
hopeful.
According to (David, 2017). The capacity for imaginative thinking is an important component
of the human experience that can be used to enhance creativity, problem-solving skills, and
well-being. This will have a positive impact on intellectual growth. This is an excerpt of how
Anne calms herself by imagining:
"Pretty good. I fantasize a lot, and it helps me spend
time. Of course I feel lonely. But then, I realized that...
it suits me.” (Montgomery, 1908 : 91)
In many cases, sometimes their imagination creates new things or new concepts to solve
problems.
This shows that our imagination also allows us to explore what is possible or can be
imagined beyond what is currently available to us in the environment around us, could happen
and is even happening in the real world. In other words, our imagination allows us to generate
new concepts and ideas based on the signs and symbols that surround us, allowing us to see
beyond what is immediately visible. We can expand our understanding of the world and
imagine new possibilities that may not be immediately obvious or visible thanks to the
interaction between signs and imagination.
Imagination takes us from appearances that currently exist to appearances that may or may not
exist. This can be described as sign interaction (Gozli, 2020).
