Brake Lock Test

REMARK

If the truck is equipped with Assisted Brake Management (ABM), this test is required to initially
enable the feature or to uninhibit the feature after a fault occurs.

Truck directional control lever is in PARK to begin this test.

1. Depress the service brake.

2. Place the directional control lever in NEUTRAL.

3. Move the brake lock switch to ON while the service brake is still applied.

4. Release the service brake.

5. Press the brake test switch.

The ABM light on the instrument panel will begin to flash and the VID panel will display (ABM Drive
Brake Setup… turn off Wheel Brake Lock)

6. Move the brake lock switch to OFF.

Both the ABM light and the brake test switch light will become solidly illuminated and VID will
display. (ABM Drive Brake Test READY press Accel Pedal to Start. )

7. Fully depress the accelerator pedal.

The drive system will enter propel mode and generate torque up to the service brake limit.

8. When the torque has reached the service brake limit, the brake test switch light will begin to flash.

This is the indication for the operator to determine the status of the brake lock.

• No truck movement = PASS

• Truck movement = FAIL

9. Release the accelerator pedal.

The test will stop, and the brake test switch light will turn off.

10. Depress the service brake.

11. Place the directional control lever in PARK.

Continue to hold service brake until the PARK light illuminates on the instrument panel.

12. If the truck failed the brake lock test, notify maintenance personnel
Retarder Test

REMARK

This truck has one pedal that combines the service brakes and dynamic retarding. The first portion of
pedal travel (low effort) engages dynamic retarding. The second portion of pedal travel (high effort)
engages the service

brakes.

1. Place the directional control lever in PARK.

2. Release the brake pedal.

3. Ensure that the brake lock switch is OFF.

4. Press the brake test switch. Wait for the brake check light in the switch to become solidly
illuminated.

The VID panel will display Parking Brake or Retard Test READY, Press Accelerator or Retard Pedal to
Start.

5. Push the pedal far enough to engage dynamic retarding but not far enough to engage the service
brakes.

Engaging the service brakes will cancel the retarder test.

The drive system will turn on CM1 through CM4 individually at 50% and verify current flow through
each grid leg.

The VID panel will display Retard System Test ACTIVE, CM1, CM2, CM3, CM4. (Each element is

added to the display as the test progresses.)

6. If the test is successfully completed, the brake check light in the switch will flash for 10 seconds
and the VID panel will display Retard System Test PASSED.

If the test is not successfully completed, the brake check light in the switch may turn off without
flashing and the VID panel will display Retard System Test FAILED or Incomplete.

7. Release the retarder pedal. The test will stop and the brake check light will turn off.

8. If the truck failed the retarder test, notify maintenance personnel immediately
Service Brake Test

REMARK

The drive system can only detect whether the service brakes are applied. It cannot detect the
percentage of application. The operator must press hard enough on the brake pedal to achieve full
brake application. Failure to reach full brake application will affect the service brake test results.

1. Fully apply and hold the brake pedal.

2. Place the directional control lever in NEUTRAL.

3. Ensure that the brake lock switch is OFF.

4. Press the brake test switch. Wait for the brake check light in the switch to become solidly
illuminated.

The VID panel will display Service Brake Test READY, Press Accel Pedal to Start.

5. While the brake pedal is fully applied, fully depress the accelerator pedal.

The drive system will enter propel mode and generate torque up to the service brake limit.

The VID panel will display Service Brake Test ACTIVE, Check Truck Movement When Light

Flashes".

6. When the torque has reached the service brake limit, the brake check light in the switch will begin
to flash.

This is the indication for the operator to determine the status of the service brakes.

• No truck movement = PASS

• Truck movement = FAIL

REMARK

If the test exits abnormally or the operator does not depress the accelerator pedal far enough to
achieve the

required torque, the VID panel will display Brake Test ERROR, Test did NOT complete. Restart the

test from the beginning.

7. Release the accelerator pedal. The test will stop and the brake check light will turn off.

8. Place the directional control lever in PARK. Release the brake pedal.

9. If the truck failed the service brake test, notify maintenance personnel immediately
