Aim: To observe the behaviour of magnets

Materials

Two magnets

Iron filings

Paper/tissue

Method

1. Align the like north poles of two magnets and observe their behaviour

2. Repeat step 1 but with the south poles instead

3. Align opposite north and south poles and observe the behaviour of the magnets

4. Place the magnets beneath a square piece of paper, first with the unlike poles aligning followed
by the like poles, then sprinkle iron filings on top of the pages respectively.

5. Observe the orientation of the field lines and make sketches of them in each case

6. Record all observations
