839 - 1 DESCRIPTION - SERVICE HOUR METER

1. General

When i n o p e r a t i o n t h e s e r v i c e hour meter w i l l add up a l l running times of

t h e main t r a n s m i s s i o n . Thus t h e i n d i c a t o r r e c o r d s t h e t o t a l l i f e of t h e
a i r f rame.

2 . C o n s t r u c t i o n a l Desgin
The c y l i n d r i c a l , u n i l l u m i n a t e d s e r v i c e hour rneter shows i n t h e c e n t e r of
i t s c i r c u l a r f a c e a f o u r - d i g i t hour c o u n t e r . The u n i t i s mounted i n t h e
v e r y r i g h t side of t h e overhead p a n e l and connected, v i a an e l e c t r i c l i n e ,
t o t h e o i l p r e s s u r e s w i t c h of t h e main t r a n s m i s s i o n . Power consumption i s
approx. 60 mW.
3 . Operation
I m e d i a t e l y a f t e r s t a r t of main t r a n s m i s s i o n , low o i l p r e s s u r e warning
l i g h t w i l l e x t i n g u i s h and s e r v i c e hour meter w i l l b e s u p p l i e d , v i a t h e o i l
p r e s s u r e switch, with 28V DC. A small b l a c k d i s k w i t h two white d o t s
l o c a t e d i n 12 o f c l o c k p o s i t i o n of t h e c o u n t e r f s f a c e w i l l r o t a t e s i x times
p e r minute when c o u n t e r i s i n o p e r a t i o n .

839 - 3 FUNCTIONAL TEST - SERVICE HOUR METER

General
- Conduct f u n c t i o n a l t e s t a f t e r i n s t a l l a t i o n of u n i t - e n g i n e s may n o t be
running. Dismantle RH t r a n s m i s s i o n cowling.

1. Unplug connector 22 EWa, connect A and B w i t h jumper wire.

2 . Hook up e x t e r n a l power u n i t ; e n s u r e f u s e 26 EW i s i n s t a l l e d and i n t a c t .

3 . Watch white d o t s r o t a t e i n upper p o s i t i o n of meterfs f a c e . Movement of
d o t s proves s e r v i c e hour meter t o b e o p e r a t i v e and w i r i n g t o be i n t a c t .
4 . O i l p r e s s u r e switch 22 EW may b e t e s t e d by c o n n e c t i n g an ohmmeter t o
s w i t c h c o n t a c t s A and B; s c a l e r e a d i n g must now b e " i n f i n i t e " .
5 . Disconnect e x t e r n a l power u n i t from h e l i c o p t e r ; remove jumper wire and
r e p l a c e connector 22 EWa a t o i l p r e s s u r e s w i t c h . R e i n s t a l l transmission
cowling .
839 - 4 REMOVAL - SERVICE HOUR METER

1. Remove a l l s i x screws from overhead p a n e l c o v e r p l a t e and lower c a r e f u l l y ;

unplug connector 133 W a and suspend cover p l a t e by bonding jumper.
2. Mark ET1-G20 wire with "t" and ET2-E20N with "-" b e f o r e u n s o l d e r i n g wire
ends .
3 . Hold on t o body of s e r v i c e hour meter while unscrewing both f r o n t a l
screws; s e p a r a t e rneter from c o v e r p l a t e .

839 - 5 INSTALLATION - SERVICE HOUR METER

1. F i t body of s e r v i z e hour meter t o overhead panel cover p l a t e f o r

i n s t a l l a t i o n and hold i n t h a t p o s i t i o n u n t i l both f r o n t a l screws have been
securely t w i s t e d i n t o flange of u n i t from below.

2 . Resolder marked wires t o ü n i t ' s hook terminals.

3 . Plug-in connector 133 W a .

4 . Conduct f u n c t i o n a l test; r e f e r t o paragraph 839-3.

5. Using s i x screws, replace overhead panel cover p l a t e .
