EXPERIMENT NO. 5 AIM: To study Balanced 3-phase circuit. THEORY: A 3-phase supply system supplies power to a load. The load may be connected in star or delta. We shall verify the relations between phase quantities and line quantities and to relate the currents, voltages and power in the circuit under balanced conditions. We have i= Tpn Vi = ¥3Vpn Power = 3 (Vpn * Ipn)cos = V3Vi L. cosd where cos} is power factor and 4 is phase angle between Vin and Ipn and hence is solely decided by Zi. Subscript ph for phase and L for line. star connected load: a) Apparatus required : Loading arrangement: 3-rheostat of 2.8 amp, 110 ohm Ammeters: Three A.C. 0-2 amp Voltmeter: Two 0-150-300 volt A.C. Wattmeter: One 2.5 amp, 300 volts. Procedure: i) connect as shown in figure no.1 ii) Set the rheostats for maximum resistance. ee ii) Switch on the mains. oe tv) Note the readings of the three ammeters, two voltmeters and the wattmeter. v) Vary the resistance such that equal currents, flow in the three ammeters. vi) Take different readings without exceeding the current limits.
