The APPLE OF DISCORD

Narrator:
It was a fine sunny day. All the gods and goddesses were excited about the wedding of King Pelaus and the sea nymph,
Thetis. Everyone was rejoicing for the union except one. Eris, the goddess of Discord, was furious for she was not invited to
the wedding.

Eris (Shouting with a mockery voice): A FINE SUNNY DAY TO YOU ALL!

Narrator: Everyone was surprised. No one dared to say anything, for they knew Eris's ballistic attitude.

Eris: ALTHOUGH YOU DID NOT INVITE ME TO WITNESS YOUR UNION, I SHALL GIVE YOU A GIFT YOU WILL NEVER
FORGET.

Narrator: Eris threw a golden apple in the middle of the hall with an inscription: TO THE MOST BEAUTIFUL OF THEM ALL.
Then, Eris left laughing. All the goddesses wanted the GOLDEN APPLE, for they wanted to be called the most beautiful of
them all. They fought and debated. The once-happy wedding day became a chaotic scene of greedy goddesses. Zeus,
seeing all of these, came in to intervene.

ZEUS: SILENCE ALL OF YOU! (Thunder and lightning came into the hall) YOU SHOULD BE ASHMED OF YOURSELVES.
FIGHTING OVER THAT APPLE OF TEMPTATION.

Hera: But my lord, the apple should be mind, for I am your wife.

Athena: I beg to disagree, Father. I should be the one to have it, for I am the most beautiful and the wisest.

Aphrodite: I don’t think you understand. I am the goddess of Love and Beauty, the apple was made for me.

Hera: NO WAY!

Athena: THAT’S RIDICULES.

ZEUS: SILENCE! SINCE YOU THREE ARE OBSESSED WITH THAT APPLE. YOU WILL BE SENT TO SOMEONE WHO
CAN JUDGE WHO SHOULD BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL. HERMES!

Hermes: My, lord.

Zeus: SUMMON PARIS AND TAKE THESE THREE TO HIM. TELL HIM TO MAKE A WISE DECISION WHO SHOULD
OWN THE APPLE.

Narrator: And so, Hermes took the three goddesses to the mountain to where the man called Paris. Paris was the son of
King Priam, of whom he expelled for he was prophesized to bring destruction to Troy.
After Hermes talked to Paris, he left the goddesses to his hands.

Paris: I was told, that you were fighting over this apple.

Hera: Yes, we are, but I deserve the apple, for I am the wife of the god of gods. Give me the apple and I will make you not
only the Prince of Troy but King of all Asia.

Athena: Hah! I am the goddess, Athena, if you choose me, you will have the skills to be victorious in the war.

Aphrodite: My dear, Prince, I am Aphrodite, the goddess of Love and Beauty. I will offer you the most precious gift far better
than being a ruler and a victorious warrior.

Paris: And what gift would you offer me in exchange for this golden apple?

Aphrodite: I will give you the most beautiful woman in the world.

Narrator: Paris, who was young and valued beauty above all, was tempted by the offer of the Aphrodite.

Paris: Your offers are all valuable, but I believe that this apple should be given to Aphrodite.

Narrator:
While Aphrodite told Paris that Helen, the wife of Menelaus, King of Sparta, was the most beautiful woman in the world,
Hera and Athena stormed off the scene in rage. Paris made sail for Sparta after asserting his rightful throne as Prince of
Troy and arrived at Menelaus' palace bearing valuable gifts. With the help of Aphrodite, Paris abducted Helen and took him
to Troy. Little did Paris know that his action caused the Trojan War, which lasted ten years and was the most epic conflict in
history!
