CHAPTER THREE

METHODOLOGY

3.1 Introduction

The purpose of this chapter is to outline the methodology employed to


investigate the influence and consequences of gaming addiction on the
academic performance of students at Worldstar College of Science and
Technology. This chapter will outline the research objective and the chosen
methodology. It will describe the sample selection process and detail the
data collection method and analysis procedures. Lastly, it will address
ethical concerns and limitations related to this study.

3.2 Aim of research

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between gaming


addiction and academic performance among students at Worldstar College
of Science and Technology. And to answer these research questions:

- Is there a correlation between gaming addiction and academic


performance among Worldstar College of Science and
Technology students?
- How does the frequency and duration of gaming sessions relate
to academic performance?
- How do students with gaming addiction navigate their
academic responsibilities and gaming habits?
3.3 Methodological approach

In this study, a qualitative approach will be employed to explore the impact


of gaming addiction on the academic performance of Worldstar College of
Science and Technology students. A qualitative methodology is suitable for
capturing the rich and detailed experiences, perceptions, and perspectives
of individuals regarding a complex phenomenon like gaming addiction and
its effect on academic performance. The qualitative approach will allow for
an in-depth understanding of the subjective experiences and meanings
attributed to gaming addiction by the students.

3.4 Interview

In this study, a qualitative approach utilizing interviews will be employed to


explore the impact of gaming addiction on the academic performance of
Worldstar College of Science and Technology students. Interviews are an
effective method for gathering in-depth and nuanced information about
individuals' experiences, perceptions, and beliefs related to gaming
addiction and its effect on academic performance. Through interviews,
participants can share their unique perspectives and provide detailed
insights into the phenomenon under investigation.
