PAINFUL PERIODS
SUMMARY:
The symptoms of dysmenorrhorea and menorrhagia and the ultrasounds
report suggest a diagnosis of adenomyosis. This is a benign condition whereby
functioning endometrial glands and stroma are found within the myometrium. With
each period bleeding occurs from the endominarial tissue into the smooth muscle,
with associated pain. It tends to occurs in women over 35 years and risk factors
include increased parity, termination and previous Ceasarean section. The condition
may commonly be found in association with endometriosis. Classically the
diagnosis may only be made histologically after hysterectomy for dysmenorrhea.
More rercently however the diagnosis can be suspended by ultra sound pr magnetic
resonance imaging scan.
TO NURSING PRACTICE
It happens because your uterus contracts to shed its lining. The pain
typically begins just before your period and subsides after a few days. Primary
dysmenorrhea refers to recurrent pain with no identifiable cause.
TO NURSING EDUCATION
During your menstrual period, your uterus contracts to help expel its lining.
Hormonelike substances ( prostaglandins) involed in pain and inflammation trigger
the uterine muscle contractions.
TO NURSING RESEARCH
The terms ‘menstrual pain” band dysmenorrhea are commonly considered
synonymous in clinical practice and literature. They indicate a cramp-like, dull,
throbbing pain that usually emanates from the lower abdomen.
Personal Insights
This is the most common kind of period pain. It is period that is not
caused by another condition. The cause is usally having too many prostaglandins.
Which are chemicals that your uterus makes. The chemicals make the muscle of
your uterus tighten and relax and this cause the cramps.
